They don't want you falling while in their watch. After you leave, you're on your own.

It depends on the context of why you were in the hospital. Obviously if you walked in with a broken arm, you can walk back out again. However, some injuries they'll use wheelchairs.

Since I don't have health insurance I use the ER as my primary means of healthcare. I know from experience that they will take any opportunity to escort you out in a wheelchair. I'm sure it has to do with insurance and them trying to cover their asses in all possibilities.

Hmmmm. Kind of an odd thing when you think about. But I guess the covering their ass part makes sense

They made me get in a wheelchair when I broke my big toe and they were very stern when they told me I better not get out until I leave, so in my experience yes.

They've always forced me to leave in a wheel chair if I was in a bed at any point.

It was crutches, but it more seemed like they just wanted to squeeze a few extra dollars out of me.

I had 4 stitches in the bottom of my foot, they insisted I buy them because I might develop a bad walking pattern if I didn't use them. I ended up using them for a day, then said fuck it and walked with a limp.

My walking motions never degraded

I got wheeled about in a wheelchair or using the bed I was on when I was inpatient. It felt weird. I also got wheeled out of the hospital on discharge although my walking ability was severely limited post-surgery.

Having been released from a hospital after a two night stay a week ago, I can confirm they let me leave without a wheelchair, despite being a "fall risk".

Yes. But it depends. If the patient is very much against it , they can walk. But the chair is usually the way to go because it reduces their chances of falling and then suing the hospital

You would be surprised the stupid thing people would sue over, even if it was their own fault

One thing about hospital dramas are that they do everything they can to paint hospitals in a bad light. I don't think I've seen one yet where the patient had any rights and wasn't treated like a five year old that couldn't make choices for themself.

Have you been to a hospital in the past 20 years? The one's I've been to VERY much treat you like a 5 year old.
