It doesn't seem out of line with anything Obama would do, and wasn't it targeted at an air base? In response to chemical weapons (a war crime). I get the feeling he was just doing exactly what his advisors told him to do.

1. It's something Obama very specifically did not do
2. Obama is a poor barometer of "is this bit of foreign intervention good?" IMO

Agreed, but at worst it seems par for the course, not a reckless escalation of our intervention policies.

It's not a bad thing. It's actually a pretty good thing, and it was done in all the right ways.

It's not bad....but I don't quite understand what purpose it serves, short of a "hey look what we can do if we're pissed off" demonstration.

That he responded is honestly a good thing. How he responded, however… we'll have to wait and see.

Does it need to serve anything beyond that? He's currently negotiating with China over N. Korea. The world now knows if they cross a line they could be, without warning, blown up.

Obama did go to congress to request approval to strike Syria, but congress denied the request.

The United States has the most extensive military in the history of civilization....we shouldn't need to blow up a building in the middle of nowhere for the world to know that.

The whole point of a huge military is lost if nobody thinks you'll use it. Obama said Syria crossed a red line and we did nothing, so Assad likely believed he could keep doing whatever he wanted. Now he knows that's not the case.

And yeah, as long as the assumption that Assad is the one that gassed his own citizens continues to ring true, I agree with using military force. I still get uneasy when this kinda stuff happens, though. Gotta hope whatever results from this doesn't come back to bite us.
