All I know about the game is apparently it panders to SJWs (doesn't bother me, some of my fave games do that)

And it has robot dinosuars.

Someone also showed me a bit with some terrible voice acting but I'm guessing that was cherry picked.

Anything to look out for? Are there annoying points of no returns?

Missables as far as Trophies no, but you can miss story I think.

Yes, but they warn you before the point of no return.

Pretty easy

Like if someone was starting FFX you can say the expert sphere grid is shit, don't pick it and check the Dogs mouth in Besaid.

Little tips.

Best tip I can give: Just enjoy the game. Take your time to explore and soak in the setting/story. It pretty much hits all the right notes and I finished the game feeling very satisfied with the ending, yet still wanting more.

Also, try to do all the side quests, if possible. They got side quests right in this game.

No missables; you get warned before 2 points of no return, the first of which is a soft point. My advice: Do all the side quests you can find before each of the two points. They can add extra dialogue to the story things, reflecting your actions in the quests.

They also help you get a trophy later on.

No, the game does not pander to any group in any way, really. All points of view are rather equally shown. Voice acting in the game is pretty good throughout, with small hiccups here or there; none of which are in mains tory things.

They literally break the 4th wall almost to tell you about the points of no return. No hinting about it or anything, they flat out tell you to your face. No need to worry.

Personally, I didn't like any of the side quests. I did a few of them, but didn't find them interesting and just rushed the main story. I also thought the combat was boring, so I wound up running past enemies whenever possible.

Really enjoyed the main story though. I'd recommend listening to all the data points in the main story.

i just started it too

I'm liking it for the most part, but combat just feels... off

it suffers from that modern cinematic game problem of trying to make things animate realistically, so some playability is sacrificed for that

like, hit detection feels way off, enemies flying through the air will curve in mid air to knock you over "smootly", weapons have different reach depending on how far things are from you, etc.

IIRC the first 'point of no return' the game tells you about isn't really one, so you don't really have to worry about it.

I like how the character is an outcast and doesn't know shit about the world.

That's clever, because we the player don't know either

It was always stupid in games where like Commander Shepard would go "The Genophage!? What's that!?"

Or Fable where you're the King's brother and yet have to be told what the towns are and who lives there.

It's cool that we're learning as the character learns. Good narrative storytelling

Killing Rockbreakers always felt good.

As for the story, it wasn't too shabby. The main quests were good to fine, but the sidequests were pretty forgettable. It's a shame Nil didn't have a bigger role, since he was the most memorable NPC in the game and about ten times cooler than a certain red-haired girl.

Nil was really weird.

I suspect he's supposed to turn up more but I only saw him twice, at the start and end of his quest.

So we took out 1 bandit camp, then I took out all the rest and he was like "Boy we sure did a lot of work didn't we!?" and I was like "Oh fuck off."

Yes. And I can see why even though I don't agree with them.

Main character is a young female who couldn't have been more of a Mary Sue unless her name was Mary. Despite being treated like shit by 89% of the characters in the game.

Characters in the game are a completely diverse cast of all races and nationalities.

Everyone evil is a powerful man. Usually white.

Every black woman in the plot is amazing and noble and just so darn great.

The women are just as if not more powerful than the men somehow. But despite being so powerful not one seems to have joined Eclipse, the slave traders or Dervahl and I don't think there were any in the shadow carta either.

Aloy despite being both a Mary Sue and raised as an outcast with no friends or social interaction whatsoever is competely appaled and uncomfortable about sex.

But too be fair to the critics it seems like the main reason people were saying that is apparently a bunch of websites and the developers were talking about how great it was to finally have female protaganists and how socially aware they were. And the fact it was developed in the Netherlands which has a far left-reputation.

I didn't follow any of the hype or advertising for the game so it didn't affect me but I think a lot of people were triggered before they touched it.

So I finished the game.

Overall it's a fantastic game. There are 1000 nitpicks, some of them curiously bizarre considering the level of attention to detail the rest of the game shows.

Still a couple of things In the plot I didn't either understand or follow

For starters, why is it that half the people we hear from in the past didn't seem all that bothered about the fact exctinction was afoot. They spoke like it a nusance.

But anyway I'm kinda lost on how the new civilization started. Gaia raised kids, they ran out of food and so had to be sent out early... and those kids went off and formed all these tribes? There only seemed to be like 10 of them..

I know Apollo failed but I don't get how those kids ended up creating the Nora, Carta etc. Let alone founding religions and towns..

Also why the fuck was humanity so stupid? "We made ourselves extinct with robots, let's fix this by making robots, but we need to include an AI that wants to make us extinct because what could possibly go wrong! Also let's bring the guy who caused extinction to occur in the first place on the team because that'll end well!"

i know they handwave that it was a failsafe incase Gaia screwed up but that seems weak to me.

Also how did Gaia get baby Aloy out of the Mountain? The door was shut and even if it wasn't, how did it move her from the cradle to the outside?

Anyways, Plot was a little bananas, Aloy is a weak character. But the gameplay was great and the world was beautiful, by the half way point I stopped caring about the past and Aloy's history and just wanted to more stuff with the Carta.
