So the other night my Vodka looked weird. I poured out a shot and the liquid acted like syrup. I poured out a 2nd shot and then it looked normal. I drank from it and didn't get sick or anything. I always keep it in the freezer but before I owned the bottle the guy before me always kept it at room temperature and inside his closet.

Is it possible that my bottle has gone bad?

The brand is New Amsterdam. Anyone else ever see vodka behave like that?

I googled and didn't get anything helpful.

I don't think vodka can go bad unless it's been like, decades since it's such a high proof. Storing it in the freezer might explain the consistency of the first shot since such high-proof alcohol also doesn't really freeze as much as get cold and thick. It's like, as long as the second shot tasted normal I think you're good.

if it's cold enough it can act kind of syrupy. only noticeable when pouring it. not when drinking it.

so it's less flavourful than whiskey but there's still no reason to freeze it? sounds pretty similar to what I said...

Thanks for the response guys

Here's a pic of a shot. It wasn't acting as weird as that night but you can still see some of it sticking to the side of the cup. (The drops at the top are water from me washing the cup)

From what I can read, vodka doesn't go bad. I mean its quality starts to slip with time, but it doesn't become toxic to drink.

vodka literally has no flavour. its a buffer for cocktails.

gin is vodka infused with flavor
