I loved RE7 (my goty so far honestly) but it is definitely not better than Alien Isolation

Alien Isolation is a masterclass in ratcheting up tension, and the sound design is possibly the best in any game ever,

Sure if you dont mind running from humans with guns for an hour and an half before any alien stuff happens at all

I didn't like it, but I wouldn't necessarily call it a bad game or anything. Its a very niche type of experience, so I can't say if it's worth 10 bucks to you.

It's pretty great. It kinda stretches on for a bit too long and the Alien isn't always that fun to avoid but it's a great experience.

afaik all hard does is improve the AI of the Alien--it's an instant kill if it gets you on normal too


but it is definitely a very hard game, especially in the early goings before you learn how to deal with threats

EDIT: also, it depends on your play style. The Alien learns from you--if you use any one kind of hiding spot often it will start to check those first. If you use a certain distraction technique too often it will get wise to it.

You get less resources to deal with him as well I think.

It's not rubberbanding, but the Alien learns from what you do (and it learns quicker at the higher difficulty levels). For example, using a noisemaker to distract the Alien will work a few times, but eventually it figures out what you're doing and ignores them.

the complaints about this are overblown

essentially the Alien has "a mind of its own". other than the first part where you're guaranteed to see the alien, it comes and goes as it pleases. So no playthrough is going to be alike.

the "rubber banding" people refer to is despite this, the Alien is "tethered" to the player. So it always is within a certain distance, even when it's out of hearing range--which makes total sense for a game based on avoiding this Alien. If you're in one area while the Alien is on the other side of the map, where's the fun in that?

There definitely is. Sometimes he will spawn from the closest air vent once you get too far.

It doesn't happen all the time but there are certain sequences in the game where he's basically always on top of you no matter what you do.
