Like I get it. When I was in high school, I wanted to get hammered all the time and my mentality was coke, Jim, and his Beamer is totally better than chugging carbonated piss. But that's because I was limited to Bud Light (which I actually enjoy now) or Budweiser.

But man, there is so much out there. Like right now I'm hooked on Evolution Lot No. 6 Double IPA. Shit is so good. Another is Satan's Pony. VooDoo Ranger. Even more known brands like Guinness or Pilsner are just so good.

You really gotta enjoy it.

Eh, most double ipa's are shit. The brewers want to get the ibu as high as possible. Fuck the taste and complexity of flavor.

I agree, it isn't for everyone. But a lot of people that hate on it usually haven't tried anything other than commercial brands.

I tend to find many beers have a general similar taste, and the light ones tend to taste the same as well, despite the different branding, but yeah, even so there are still plenty of flavors out there that stand out somewhat, and have special ingredients that give it its own personality.

IPAs aren't everyone's cup of tea, but I feel sorry for your double IPA experience if that's what you got from it.

I just gave my mom, who typically hates all beer, some of my NE style 2x IPA from a favorite spot in town. She loved it and was surprised at how bitter it wasn't, fruity, etc.

yeah, i've turned a lot of my friends on to beers by having them try stuff

like i don't understand how people wouldn't like a stout that tastes LITERALLY like chocolate

or people who love coffee but claim they wouldn't like a good coffee porter

or say they all taste the same when you can find a beer that tastes like basically any fruit

Yeah, often beers do taste the same. I just feel it's best for people to venture out and try different kinds; assuming they are interested of course. Can't tell you how many people I know that used to be anti beer but found a few they like from testing the waters.

I usually want to try some other flavors, which I see tons of varieties at my local stores, but at the same time those eccentric beers are quite expensive, and I try not to invest so much money in just drinks alone. Maybe on a special occasion, but otherwise I find them to be a little demanding budget-wise.

Thank you!

I mean obviously some people won't budge because they truly dislike beer but there really is practically something for everyone.

For people who don't already like beer, there's not a whole lot of difference between the good craft beers and the commercial stuff. It all just tastes like beer.

Kind of like how cigar smokers will swear by certain brands, but to someone who doesn't like cigars they all just taste like cigars.

I tend to drink more beer recently because I get more satisfied from it than other types of drinks such as sodas, which just tend to leave me more thirsty and in addition to that they make my stomach feel like I have just swallowed a ball, sodas aren't even what they were years ago, where I could drink 3 and it'd be fine, but now I find that even when I drink just one it stuffs me out to unbearable levels.

So I rely on beer instead, and it quenches my thirst better, and I find I enjoy the drink more through a bottle, since it forces you to take smaller gulps, instead of one big gulp from other types of drinks and then I'm already out. That is, of course, for the bottled beers, but even the ones that are canned have a similar effect. I don't pour them all into one glass, I just drink them as is.

take this one for example: https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/130/101458/

the flavor is straight up chocolate shake

or this one: https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/68/112953/

like if you have tastes buds at all these taste wildly different from each other, and nothing like bud lite

I'm this way too now. 6-7 years ago with more income I use to dump a lot of money into beer. Now, even though I can I find myself unable to do so. At least unless I become miraculously financially set.

That said, there are a few favorites I will treat myself from time to time. But most of my drinking is average lagers that are inexpensive.

As to TC's OP I am finding that out with wine. Over the last 5-6 years I have been trying different wines, and surprised there's so much out there and so little I've tried in that time. But I'm not always in the mood for wine like I am beer.

And just an aside, I generally like beer but I find chocolate beer fucking disgusting. I would never recommend it to someone who does not like beer to begin with.

I think it's hard to get into beer as you get older. For me, to like beer I had to just keep drinking it no matter how badly I hated it. Eventually the switch flipped and now I love beer. But when you get older, you kinda just stay in your lane and drink what you like to drink. You don't force yourself to drink something you hate to make yourself possibly someday like it. My wife will never ever like beer, no matter how much I try to get her to like it.

I'm the same way. I enjoy soda but I down a can in like three gulps and am left unsatisfied, like you said. Though I'm more of a glass guy if available. Socially though, can or bottle works for me.

That's awesome you are getting into different wines. I am as well. Though no matter how many kinds I try, I can't drink dry wine. It has to be sweet.

I've found as I've gotten older that my body just doesn't process it as well as it used to. After one or two beers I feel like I swallowed a rock, and then I just don't want any more. Liquor and wine don't do that to me.
