Had a few of the GOAT games like MGS1 and FF7, and a decent number of good/great games but the loading times were ridic on some games, licensed shovelware was p abundant and it has some of the worst graphics ever.

Nah. Very little on it if you don't like generic licensed platformers, Japanese "Weeb trash" RPGs, or interactive movies. Castlevania SOTN is probably the best game on the system, and the only one I love.

Muppet Race Mania was good though.

You have to go back a long way to find anything worse than

http://iv1.lisimg.com/image/9950146/640full-medal-of-honor%3A-underground-screenshot.jpg

Of course it's not a fair comparison technology-wise since this is early 3D compared to before, which was almost exclusively 2D on consoles, if you were to compare just based on how visually appealing it is, it's like some missing 2.5-gen console where everutjhng was as pixelated as a 2600 but with more colors per sprite and the ability to draw more crappy sprites at once.

Nah. It gave me my favorite game ever, but aside from FFT, I really didn't play that much on it. I spent way more time playing the N64 that gen.

I have that game. I 100%'d it, too. Dunno if I would call it a good game exactly but I had fun with it.

With the very notable exception that MGS1 freezes on PS2 during one of the ending cutscenes.

I liked the N64 better, but still loved the PS1. My best friend and my dad had one for a few years before I got my own. Most played games were:

Resident Evil 1-3
Silent Hill
Spyro
THPS 1-3
Metal Gear Solid
Final Fantasy VIII
Monster Rancher 2

I was too scared to play the RE games and SH without the GameShark. Platformers and multiplayer games were generally much better on N64 though.

FFVIII? Interesting...

I only had enough to get VII or VIII and VII's graphics were a huge turnoff at the time.

I didn't know how broken VIII was until recently because I had used a GameShark and just enjoyed it for the exploration, characters, and Triple Triad.

Of course.

It gave us the Tomb Raider franchise (which is still better than the interactive movies of the current-gen Tomb Raiders)

Resident Evil franchise.

And a bunch of broken fighting games.

I beat every one of them. You learn to work with the controls. They're annoying but solving the labyrinth levels more than made up for it. The only next-gen Tomb Raider than can compete with the PS1 series is Tomb Raider Anniversary, and that's precisely because it kept the level formula of the originals while improving the controls.

It is, yes.

I actually used to play around a lot with the music synthesizer it had, it had enough styles and I used to just let it play the songs with it on, in a dark room with the lights on. It was kind of corny and cheesy, but it was only one of the few places where you could actually get a rhythmic visual to go with the song.

I even got a bit disappointed in PS2 since the feature provided on it for playing the CDs wasn't quite the same.

Definitely.

My favorite game is on that console (Star Ocean: The Second Story), and it has at least 15 more that are in my top 50.

Spent hours and hours with just Battle Arena Toshinden III, MGS, and Oddworld at my cousin's house.

You also had stuff like Twisted Metal 2, Jet Moto 2, Soul Blade, Siphon Filter, Tekken, Mega Man (7, X4-6, Legends), Tony Hawk Pro Skater, etc.

And then there was the slew jrpgs: Xenogears, Wild Arms, Legend of Legaia, Legend of Dragoon, FFVII-IX, Parasyte Eve, Suikoden II, and more.

No contest.

PS1 is my favorite console, and IMO the N64/Saturn/PS1 is easily one of the greatest generation in the history of gaming. So many great IPs were created during this era.

For the PS1 alone...

Syphon Filter
Silent Hill
Resident Evil
Parasite Eve
Tomb Raider
Fear Effect
Crash Bandicoot
Sypro the Dragon
Jet Moto
Coolboarders
Wild Arms
Xenogears
Legacy of Kain
Threads of Fate
Deception
The Unholy War
Akuji the Heartless
Shadow Man
Army Men 3D
Arc the Lad
Grandia
Alundra
Powerslave
Aquanaut's Holiday
Treasures of the Deep
Ace Combat
Twisted Metal
Tony Hawk Pro Skater
