The US allowed some stupid people to make it acceptable that "no one should hurt your feelings, real or percieved hurt" ans it got popular and wide spread.

Because society told one generation they are not special.

So that generation rebelled and made themselves special.

And passed that down to Millennials, who rebelled even further because the "special" generation was still too samey.

People were always like this tbh...I remember in High School this emo kid had this shirt on that said "you laugh because i dress different, I laugh because you all dress the same!"....as he sits in a group, with other kids, dressed exactly like he is dressed.....Some people just lack self awareness.

I always thought that phrase was stupid. Being different just for the sake of difference is just as bad as being the same just to fit in. Like what you like. If it happens to be the same as what everyone else likes, or it's something different, it shouldn't​ affect how you like it by itself.

but anyways the phrase "everyone is special and important in their own way"
was ubiquitous in media from kids cartoons, to movies like disney and to those made for school movies like don't do drugs and stuff

it is kinda funny to see the older folk not like the way millenials act when they are the ones who rained the phrase all over them in the developing years

then you had parents who would argue with coaches when their kid didn't get to play in a game because their kid was trash
so there was a movement in schools to allow everyone time to play and be in the spotlight to avoid those loud parents arguing with the staff
