No one can do this song justice except Freddie himself. All covers of this song do him dishonor. And no, I'm not saying this ironically. If you want to honor Freddie, cover another Queen song that you actually have a shot of doing just as well as the original. There aren't many, but they do exist.

I love Freddie Mercury, he has an incredible singing voice, but that pedestal only goes so high. That dude from Bad Company that toured with Queen for a bit did a great job, honestly. And Extreme did a fantastic job at that tribute concert years back.

Freddie Mercury is a legend, no doubt. But he's not untouchable.

Nah.

Yah. Even Adam Lambert can only get a notch below him. Adam is great, but Freddie was the best. Adam just doesn't have as good of a stage presence as Freddie, or the same control over his voice.

And even more people are obsessed with overrating garbage musicians like Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, and Miley Cyrus. You're not cool or edgy for liking them.

just like who you like, who gives a shit if someone else doesn't like them

the only thing that matters is that you enjoy it. someone else shouldn't be able to influence your opinion on what music you like, and anyone who thinks less of someone for liking something they don't is garbage.

on the reverse, you shouldn't give a shit if someone likes something you don't, because that makes you a shitty garbage bag full of shitty baby diapers

He really didn't, though. Mainly because he didn't really try to change his own singing style to match the band in any real way, which is a problem if your vocal style doesn't really mesh with the performance.

If you want to talk about replacement singers living up to the standards set by their predecessors, Journey is where you should be looking. Arnel Pineda sounds more like Steve Perry than Steve Perry does at this point.

I never thought I was "cool" or "edgy" for disliking Justin Bieber. I'm well aware that he gets plenty of hate from mainstream media and everyone else. I'm okay with being in the majority; I'm not a hipster like you seem to think I am. I'm sorry if my comment seemed to come off as harsh, but I see people bash Queen all the time just because they're an old band.

I disagree. I don't expect him to identically replicate Freddie Mercury's voice, because he's not Freddie Mercury. IMO he sounded great. If you want note-for-note duplication of Freddie Mercury, just listen to the original Queen recordings.

He doesn't have to sound identical to Freddie Mercury's voice to mesh well with the songs, though. The problem is, he DOESN'T mesh well with the songs.

(As a side example - George Michael didn't sound exactly like Freddie Mercury's voice singing "Somebody to Love" during the Tribute Concert, but he's still a good fit for the music. Some of the other people who sang during that show... really, really weren't. George Michael also doesn't sound like Elton John, but his voice arguably fits the music even better than Elton John's does when they sing "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me" together.)

Like it or not, certain singers shouldn't sing certain songs, and he's really not a good fit with Queen's music in general.

Sounds fine to me, PO. You said you don't expect a perfect rendition, then you mention George Michael, who sounded much closer to Freddie than Paul Rodgers. I think Rodgers' bothers you because your ear is trained to hear Freddie Mercury, and if you hear something too different then it doesn't appease. The closer you get to Freddie's sound, the more it pleases your ear. Which is perfectly fine. You like what you like.

Paul Rodgers, while not at all FM Part Two, sounds great to me. "Meshes" just fine. But I can listen to it without the expectation that he needs to sound just like Mercury to derive any enjoyment out of it.
