So I quit my convience store job to try out construction. Everyone told me there was a lot of busy work to do and I wold be moving all day. But as the low man on the totem pole without much expirience, I basically just follow the foreman around and do whatever he needs done. Even watching the other workers though I have noticed it is a very slow paced job.

I was willing to put up with it because of the high pay and good benefits, but today I found out that the advertised apprenticeship position may be false. It turns out unlike the other contractors on my site preapprentices with my company usually dont get moved to apprenticeship. They just toil away without raises until they quit. One guy even went 6 years as a preapprentice.

And besides that in the interview I was told most of my jobs would be around the city, but the people on site are telling me they usually drive an hour or two to each job.

I have never quit this early in a job. And I have never not given a 2 week, but that seems pointless to do when you havent even been working a week.

Even without apprentinceship, you'll still have the experience which would look great on any other trade you wanna get into, like plumbing or pipefitting or carpentry or even power. Stick it out for awhile. your just job shadowing for now, that's why you;'re following the foremen around. It'll look good on your resume.

Another 25 minute 15 minute break and 45 minute half hour lunch. How do construction sites get away with so much wasted time?

Sticking to rigid schedules actually can harm productivity. A lot of places that loosen up on those expectations see a rise in worker output.

I agree rigid schedules are bad, but there is a difference between a rigid schedule and giving yourself an extra half hour paid break.

At my work half the parking lot was undergoing construction and one guy did nothing but tell cars and trucks to stop and go when heavy machinery was moving in and out of the lot which was not often. He was at it for like 8 hours day.

If it's better money, an easier schedule, etc, than your last job, what's the problem?
