I'm going to Sydney for the first time, but my town doesn't have a rail system (we have tracks, but they discontinued the rail line decades ago). The nearest train line is in a town that's about an hour away, and since tonight was my mum's late shift at work, I couldn't grab a ride here with her - the train leaves at 2 AM tomorrow morning, and I understand and respect that. So I got a ride over with friends at around 5:30PM, they went skating and we got kebabs, and at around 7:30 I walked to the station.

It's 8PM now. My train comes at 2AM. For the next six hours, I'm going to be cooped up in this waiting room.

So, AMA. I have my phone, a PSP and a magazine called "100 Greatest Comic Books of All Time" to keep me occupied, but it's going to be a long 6 hours even then. Hit me up with some questions.

Probably. I'll grin and bear it, though - I get into Sydney at around 7AM, so I'll grab something then.

My town is in buttfuck nowhere, you can get around by walking most of the time. We don't have Uber, and a cab out to here would be close to $100.

Yeah, it's dingy in here. There's rubbish everywhere, the foam seat has holes in it, the tiles are pretty dirty and the windows are filthy. The place is in a bad way.

If you think I'm describing this train station as a motorised rubber watercraft, I think the spelling for that is "dinghy". I'll look it up in a sec, posting from my phone.

Edit: just looked it up, and that is indeed the case.

Well, I'm seeing The Mountain Goats on Sunday. That's why I'm making the trip. I'm also going to see some of my extended family, an aunt and a cousin, and I'm eating a 1kg chicken schnitzel - it's an eating challenge, I get a t-shirt for eating it in under an hour.

Depends on the person, I guess? I mean most people like pizza, pub feeds and kebabs where I live. Since we don't have a kebab shop where I live, they're like this mythical super-food that people will road trip to other towns for. It's pretty rad.

Nah. I think I'd be more scared of him than he would be of me, and it's pretty hard to pee on someone when you're absolutely terrified.

I like garlic sauce or satay sauce. The cheese is usually a bit bland, so the garlic sauce adds a sweet savoury taste to complement that and it goes well with how the guy does the meat. As far as satay goes, I just fuckin love satay.

Since you are reading "100 greatest comic books of all time" who is your favorite superhero? If you have more than one who would you pick from DC and who would you pick from Marvel?

I don't have a particular favourite, but I do have three stand-out choices.

I've always been into Spider-Man, even before the movies came out from 2001 onwards. I never knew his personality or anything - I just thought he had a cool concept and his design was fucking rad. I never liked spiders, but I did like Spider-Man.

Batman is cool too - I think he's a bit overrated, but people who throw him under the bus are as annoying as people who deify him. He doesn't have to be the world's greatest detective, he doesn't have to be brooding and gothic - he just needs to be a good time, punching dudes in the face.

But above both of them, I especially like Superman. People call him boring, overrated and overpowered - let them think that, I guess, but I love Superman as this great bastion of goodness. He can stop cyclones, destroy meteors and save indescript people from an untimely or malicious death, but he also has his limitations such as Kryptonite and a lack of sunlight to fuel his powers. He'll risk death to save a species of aliens from an unjust extinction, and even at his strongest, he desires to not murder. I personally think the occasional kill is fine, maybe some truly repugnant examples should be shown no mercy, and sparing them is kind of fucked up - regardless, I love Superman as he is.

Also, despite what I just said, I don't like Man of Steel. It's so washed out, and it goes for this artsy, angsty, sort of washed out feel. I also hate how he felt this need to throw Superman through the wringer as hard as he did right out of the gate - he just made it worse during BvS, and if/when Superman comes back in Justice League, it's just going to feel like a cheap cop-out. I dislike DC's current crop of movies - maybe Superman should have the occasional moment where he chucks a dude into the sun, but the way Zack Snyder interprets that, IMO, is all wrong. It fits his characterisation in a way, but I just dislike how he does it.

I've got just under 3 hours to go. I've been here for about 4 hours now - I've read about 40 pages of "100 All-Time Greatest Comics" - there have been books like Swamp Thing, Watchmen and the Dark Phoenix Saga, but also lesser-known titles like Phonogram, Starstruck and A Contract With God. I hope that those Scrooge McDuck books make the cut, I remember reading about how this one guy tied a bunch of old, some say contradictory, canon about Scrooge's past into a single cohesive package and I think that's rad as fuck.

I took a stroll to find a toilet, but I could only find a woman's toilet. No-one's here, but it says that the place is monitored 24/7 and I've been raised to go where the sign says is appropriate or off in the woods/bushes. I'd pee off the platform, but I don't want it to possibly end up on CCTV. I'll ask the ticket guy when he gets in.

One hour to go. A train headed for Melbourne rolled in, but I think I'm the only one here.

This train station isn't staffed - there's an answering machine that tells people when their trains are going to get here, so I guess the ticket people are exclusive to each train.

I'm used to staying up late, so I'm in pretty good shape. It's 1:17 AM - my train gets here in an hour.

So far? Civil War. It wasn't perfect, but that ending fight was absolutely chilling and I loved it. Guardians of the Galaxy was pretty good too.
