you won't be paying a 25% rate at $9.50/hour lol. Not unless you work 80 hours/week.

Categorically false. You got duped by FAKE NEWS. In fact you can get modded for that post since posting false info as fact is trolling.

25% probably isn't that far off. Your income tax is only gonna be like 3% or something, but payroll and medicare taxes already get you more than halfway to 25

That's because you need to be making around 75k to feel like you are, and to have 25 million until you feel rich, according to various studies.

12.5% and 25% is "that far off," assuming that's even a correct estimate. And he won't be paying anything in federal tax and probably nothing in state tax.

Combined payroll taxes are over 15%

Unless you have minor dependents, tax credits won't make up for your tax burden.

Even in California you need to pay state income taxes on 19k in income.

I doubt state EITCs make up for it either

Yeah people who make $9.50 pay very little in taxes. 20% or so may come out of the check but then a good chunk of it comes back via tax refund. Which btw can be controlled with W4s but people like giving the government free loans for some reason.

Yeah I wasn't thinking 40 hours, that's true. I was working a bit less hours back when I made minimum. And yeah EITC cutoff with no dependents is like 14k in CA I think.

Geez. I remember making $6.75 minimum wage in like 2002. And that was CA.
I make $13 and something now. Which will soon enough be below minimum wage once CA raises it in 2020. So what that means for me I have no idea. Will it default to minimum or will I stay the $3+ above it. It's going up for me either way.

Nope part time. But I get 30 to 35 hours a week. Plus mileage when I have to work at a different store.

But the overtime adds up when I work those hours at my home store then pull another 10 to 15 hours at a different store.

Could say I don't want to travel but I was specifically hired to become store manager and it looks good on my record that I'm doing it. Then I get the full time or sooner if they actually fire the other assistant manager.

I had to pay city, state and federal tax in NYC making 9.50 an hour working only 25 hours a week. I lost about 100 a week in taxes.
