I doubt it will affect much, other than they probably won't have you answering phones or cashiering most likely.

yeah, but for like 4 months I only applied online to places near me. This last month I finally starting going in person to ask about openings as well and that helped a lot

Okay that's reassuring. I'll try to slow down and pause every once in a while, but it only helps slightly. But if I'm hired it'll get less severe as I get into a routine

I used to work overnights there.

Idk anything I can get really. Cashier, cart attendant, janitorial, etc
It's kinda limited because it's a neighborhood market walmart

Besides having to flip your day/night schedule around, it was actually pretty fun. Super relaxed since it wasn't a Supercenter, and closed at midnight. Left us overnighters to do basically whatever the hell we wanted as long as we did our job. I remember one dude would bring in his boombox and play old school hip hop and calssics all night long in the grocery area, and be able to hear it throughout the whole store. Plus being overnights meant you automatically get a dollar per hour raise.

The discount kinda sucks though. I live in a place with pretty high sales tax so the 10% discount was only really a 2% cut.

Granted this was back in 2011, but I got $8.45/hour. It was slightly more than unemployment and it got me work. I didn't mind the work and probably would have stuck around if the pay weren't so bad. But after 4 months I found another job and went to it.

Is this your first job or something?

Anyways, have a good work ethic and show up on time, don't slack off, and you'll do fine.

But don't be too reliable. At entry level positions, most of the people suck/barely do any work. If you're too good, the managers will give you all the work (because you're one of the best/the only person who they can trust to actually do it) and you'll end up with a stupid work load. Also, you'll get a lot more call-ins. (Oh, somebody called out! Let's see if Harpie can fill in!) That's good for hours, but can get absolutely ridiculous and you lose your life.

Also, if you have any eyes for upward mobility, being very good can actually hurt your chances, depending on management. "Yeah, Harpie's probably a good fit, but she's so good at her current position, we don't want to have to find a replacement."

tl;dr: Maintain performance slightly above "adequate". Don't draw too much attention to your job performance, good or bad, until you have a feel for the work culture.

Trust me, they'll not only argue with you, they're going to berate you, insult you, complain to the manager about you because you won't give them everything for free, and pretty much just be generally horrible people.

They won't even feel bad about it, and they'll blame YOU for their problems.

Because of the shit pay when I did work there, my wife got a job there too (at another location in the city) in the deli and the stories she'd tell about how shitty people are made me so glad I worked nights. It's really terrible how entitled, self centered, and shitty people can be to retail/service workers.
