I guess I'd have to say Twilight Princess (Zelda series). It's not the worst Zelda game I've played, but the ones that are worse aren't as major, so they don't seem as worth hating. I could say the CD-i ones too but that seems cliche, and as much of a black sheep as they are, it's not like they really ruined the series' reputation.

I had problems with TP, but I still liked parts of it. I'd probably say Zelda 1 or 2, which aren't terribly fun games.

At any rate, since I'm not sure what my fave game series is I'll list my hated ones from a lot of series:

Pokemon Coliseum (and Gale of Darkness also sucked; granted, I haven't played all of the spinoffs)

Mega Man ZX (Can't think of anything else)

Super Mario Sunshine

Phantom Menace GBA or something

Then there are a few series where I don't have a hated game.

Tales of Xillia because a large amount of people thought it was good, reassuring Namco that it was okay to continue putting out crap games with shallow writing and oversexualized female leads.

Tales of the Tempest is worse but it was such a flop that it didn't do anything to influence the series overall, so I don't care about that one.

Super Mario Sunshine

Sunshine was pretty bad, though I wasn't sure if it was right to mention it since "Mario" can be a broad series for some people. He's definitely lent his name to some far worse games than Sunshine, but it's one of the worse main Mario games. I'd put NSMB2 up there too but if you were to consider NSMB its own series I wouldn't call it one of my favorites.

Do MMO patches/updates count? Can't really think of any series I've had a least favorite of at the moment...

When MapleStory first came out, it was what all of my friends and I spent countless hours playing. Even at 24, I remember the magic it brought my 12 yr old self. Played it for yeeeaaars.

Then the Big Bang update happened and it was like Nexon just stopped caring after that.

Wouldn't recommend that game to anyone anymore. It's a total joke, and it's kind of like the equivalent of vanilla WoW players who tell incomers how they'll never understand the glory it once was.

I miss those days.

Monster Hunter Generation, it's too grindy for no good. I had played 30 hours just to get crab claws to make 3 weapons because i had to level up one weapon 3 times to make all three weapons. (that 9 level ups just to make 3 different weapons) bakc in the past game i would just make that one weapon 3 times and and be done.

But Mario is only my favorite console series. My favorite series, as in the one I've played the most over the years, is Civilization, and Civilization 6 is really bad. Future patches and expansions might fix it, but Jesus, it's a strike out right now.

I played Sunshine for the first time this past winter. It sucks, trust me. They might be able to make it better with a remaster, but a straight VC release would be worthless. The dumbest part about it is that, unlike SM64, the number of shines you collect doesn't matter. It's all about just collecting the first six or seven (can't remember the total) in each stage, so the rest are pointless unless you're happy to waste time getting all 120. The voice acting is awful, too; I'd hope if they do a remaster that it gets removed or replaced.

I remember enough about it that I doubt playing it again will change. There really wasn't a point to getting all 120 stars in Mario 64 either besides playground rumors that you could play as Yoshi once you did it, which were never once true.

Things I remember about it are not likely to be remedied by another play. Like, speaking of Yoshi, how he is a juicer in that game. How many coin missions there are. The setting is so bland yet unrelenting. Janitorial gameplay.

Yeah, you needed at least 70 to complete IIRC, which actually isn't that many. But you could at least choose which of those 70 you wanted to get, and it was nice having all the various doors with a number of stars instead of just watching things seemingly unlock at random with a cutscene. I think Sunshine required even less to beat the game. I don't remember my exact number, but I think it was in the 60s, and that was even with some extraneous stars I got before I know how it worked.

The other thing I forgot to mention is that I hated how you had to do missions one at a time, and in order. SM64 only had a few like that, but for the most part you could get any star at any time, regardless of which star you selected. And that isn't really something a remaster could fix without fundamentally changing the nature of the missions.

Oh yeah, Yoshi is pretty much pointless. I think he's only used for small parts of a couple missions, and other than that he's optional but it's not even fun or satisfying to use him.

This game is pretty much a trainwreck. Everything specific about it is mediocre-to-poorly-done, but having basic Mario 3D gameplay is something inherently decent enough at its core that it doesn't come off as a terrible game.

Even though there's not much point to getting all 120 stars, you still want to do it because it's really fun. Mario 64 would be the gold standard for post-game challenges until Galaxy 2 came around.

And Mario 64 did have a lot of those too where the stage would change quite a bit from star to star, but I get what you mean now that I remember back on Sunshine. Many more of Sunshine's stages were set up to play out in a sequence (there were a lot of "chase Shadow Mario" bullshit stars as well). I would have been fine with that too if there wasn't so much padding of the game with blue coins, and that was the limit of the exploration-oriented stars. Mario 64 had coin missions too, but that was understandable given the limitations at the time. Sunshine for no real reason other than laziness doubled down on it.

I also didn't really think Delfino itself was very imaginative. It was all a little too cutesy and cuddly, and you really couldn't escape it at all. In Mario 64 they had so many different locales and interesting themed stages and though it was bright and colorful it had those dark stages and moments too, yet in Sunshine was all-encompassing Delfino for every single stage. It could have been a good idea if the world was more imaginative, but it got super boring really fast.

It is a technically well-made game, everything mechanically works out the way it is supposed to, but one that is medicore to plodding. I'd like to play through it again, but yeah, it didn't light a fire under your feet like Mario 64 did (which I replayed recently and holds up really well).
