I mean, Jim's reasons for giving the game 2/10 is right in the review. He thinks the controls and camera are horrendous, the world and minigame design is uninspired and dreadful, the core gameplay is dreary and unintuitive.

All of that to me does add up to a very low score. Arguing whether a game deserves between 2 and 4 seems more or less pointless to me so whatever. He is absolutely providing an argument for the score he gave it. The argument against his being legitimate seems to be that his argument isn't real because... reasons

I'm not trying to argue that it deserves a 4 instead of a 2. I just think some people seem to have a review range of 0-2 and 7-10.

I have to wonder if they made the game garbage on purpose, so they could say, "Hah, you see? This genre was rubbish all along and you still wanted it!"

It just seems like something they'd do.

In my opinion, nothing wrong with the controls. Most of the gameplay complain on my part has to do with the atrocious camera (present in almost all 3-D platformers) and that the game would glitch up at times in crucial parts of a puzzle or platforming making it annoying at times (especially when timing is key).

From reports (and some playthrough I've done) it's got the Banjo-Kazooie vibe down. The legitimate complaint is that the game has a lot of technical glitches that affect gameplay. The stupid complaints is that the game is collect-a-thon heavy and that it doesn't do anything new. This is a game designed specifically for Banjo fans or people who love this dead genre.

Why would Playtonic do that to themselves? This is their debut game. They're pretty much banking on Rare nostalgia lol

2D games have aged a lot better to be totally fair. There's next to no 'busywork' in those.

there's an entire 2d genre created to pad out game time by making you revisit areas like in banjo-tooie but for some reason nobody complains
