Have you ever tried walking barefoot on a gravely road? I have. Each step is like sharp spikes puncturing the underside of your foot. That's not even counting the broken glass that's literally everywhere but you never notice when you actually have shoes and/or literally just any protective footwear...

I just want to know how they do it.

One time in college there was a fire and I thought it was just a drill so I just went out in socks. Turns out there was a fire and we couldn't go back in for a few hours so I was walking around the city in socks

One time I spent three days at a campground and didn't wear socks or shoes the whole time.

It's weird but even in that short time I started getting used to it.

My new house is kinda far away from shops and stuff, but if im just popping down the road to get some groceries I never wear shoes.

I live in a big house and it's handy to have a pair of running shoes so that it doesn't take me forever to get from one area of the house to another.

I don't know, although there are people for everything.

I would never try that, especially because of the constant broken glass everywhere. Not to mention sometimes there's flat out dead animal matter complete with the blood that is around some parts, like a dead pigeon, or a dead squirrel.

Practice. Kids back in the early 1900s would walk everywhere barefoot. Their feet would get so tough that they wouldn't even feel anything after awhile.

When my girlfriend's brother was younger he would always walk around barefoot. One day he went to his mom because he thought he had stepped in glass and he'd experience excruciating pain whenever he'd take a step. After going to the hospital they found out that he hadn't really stepped on glass, he was on the verge of nerve damage on the bottom of his feet cause he never wore shoes.

Woods and camping areas with forest, greenery, and soft nettle is one thing (though I'm still holding off on believe that) but I'm talking about industrialized city areas. Like... imagine walking barefoot in a new yorked city or something, with streets and pebbles everywhere, and and... all manner of other shit.

And I mean shit as in feces, so the worse of the 2 meanings.

I just settle for wearing socks with a textured bottom that prevent wear and tear. So not exactly barefoot but still pretty damn close to it.

Oh yeah I used to get callouses too. It's a strange sensation. They've long since went away, I wonder how the science behind them works.

living in the country as a kid I got tough feet. I would spend my summers at the crick which was full of jagged rocks. used to have tons of scars on my feet but only down to a couple 2 or 3 on each foot that are still visible.

You'll take shots to the chin with a smile when simply moving closer to your opponent feels 10x worse than the blow to your face.

I guess it takes all kinds. As kids when we'd play soccer outside my cousins would always play barefoot and I'd be amazed at their tenacity because I preferred wearing shoes and socks. But back then I was pretty damn pampered, even a blade of grass was too damn sharp for my delicate sensibilities.

meh, soccer coach made my team do that when i was a kid to force us to kick with the side of the foot instead of the toe. later on he made us play without shinguards (but with cleats on).

That's actually true, you're never supposed to kick the ball with your toe, it's very bad. You need to kick it either from the side or the front part and follow through, when doing a super kick.

The woods weren't soft, had sticks, stones, sharp pine-cones. The worst that happened was at the side of a road they had cut down some bushes to ground level, the cut of parts were hidden in the grass and I ran and stepped right on one and it almost went through my foot.

I was also barefoot out of the woods, on the streets etc, had to watch out for glass since I lived in an area where ppl didn't care.

I live in Thailand, I see some dirty hippy at least once per month walking around everywhere barefoot. I was at the Malaysian border a few months ago heading to Penang to do my visa. There was this chick with dreads walking around in elephant pants, a tank top (no bra) and barefoot. She sat down at one of the chairs in the immigration office and the soles of her feet were literally black. Made me want to vomit. I felt bad for whoever had to ride on that minibus with her.

She could have actually been pretty damn attractive if it wasn't for the fact that she was so disgusting.
