Nosferatu is not especially old (9 or 10 but could be older). He has had chronic health issues since I got him as a stray. Upper respiratory infections, hyperesthesia, urinary blockage, and he had to get a penectomy a bit more than a year ago. His quality of life never fully bounced back. He has been getting more sore and cranky.

Now he has another new serious issue and isn't doing well. It's time for my old friend.



We'll be going to the vet in a couple hours.

As much as it sucked when mine just up and died of a heart attack (we assume) at age 9, I was relieved I didn't have to take him in and make that decision.

22's really old for a cat. Anything past 13, you've been quite lucky.

Very sorry to hear that. I lost a cat about a year ago who was around the same age and it still hurts to think about.

She might have been 21, I don't remember the exact year she died, or when she was born.

Also, apparently the oldest known living cat a few years ago was only 24? I honestly thought cats lived a lot longer than that. I mean, not on average, of course, but I thought there were multiple ones in their 30s currently alive.

I'm so sorry to you and the others here who have most their animal friends
We had to put one of our kitties down in October last year
And four others have died along with that
It's too cruel

I'm just happy my cat friend got to go out being held and told what a good loved kitty he was. It was quick and he was out and gone. One second looking up at me, then his head got heavy in my hand and never came up again.

He got a proper forest burial.

And on that note I'm very done with today.

I put my cat down around this time last year. He was a warrior to the end. They had to give him three lethal injections. After two he was still walking around the room. He was that hardcore.

Nosy when he first came home. Was such a sassy man.

The last couple weeks, Sunshine had decided that his spot was going to be underneath my desk, so I was just getting used to accidentally waking him up when I put my feet down there. I keep hesitating whenever I put my feet down now, only to realize there's nothing to worry about.

I'm going to really miss Nosy. He was my first cat as an adult. I fell in love with him at work. He followed me like a chatty shadow. He was not a healthy enough candidate for adoption so taking him home was a life extension. He had a hard life before ending up stray and I'm glad that I got to give him good times in his last few years.

He was young. Theoretically he could have lived a several more years. Nosy was in chronic discomfort for the last little while (if not pain at times) and this morning he was really not doing well. We cuddled for hours before the vet. Was no longer anything like the vibrant cat when he first arrived. He was slow, achey, and having hyperesthesia bouts from being gently petted. That's all he really wanted was affection - - and it was triggering neurological episodes that caused him great distress.

Nosy was friendly and alert at the vet. Then so calm and trusting and relaxed before we got started. The whole time he had a paw on my arm and was looking at me. I get teared up thinking about it.

I said goodbye to you today, little cat. Fingers caught on bones when I stroked your fur. You could scarcely raise your head to drink, yet still you calmed me with your purr.

Were you comfortable curled on the rug? And did you know your time drew near? Your wide green eyes held gentle love, and quite pain, but showed no fear.

You slipped away so quietly that we weren't sure if you were gone. Our bouncy little cat is stilled but your little spirit lingers on.

Little ghost cat, where are you? Are you happy, are you strong? I feel your warmth, your life, your love and still can hear your purring song.

Haven't been able to sleep. Just tossing and turning thinking about Nosy. When my eyes are closed it feels like they're wide open behind my eyelids. All I see is my poor buddy.

Thanks everyone.

I'm cleaning out and tossing all of his things that can't be donated. It feels a bit sad seeing all those empty spaces. Really miss Nosy.

Going to print out a photo of him to frame and keep around. Also going to make sure to take more photos of my other cats. Even though I take animal photos nearly every day I haven't taken all that many of my own. Must remedy that.
