Uh, wait, so do you like the original version of The Boxer or are you talking about somebody doing a reading of the lyrics? I was kind of confused by your post. Because if you are referring to the original, it seems weird you'd like it since it has all the qualities you said you don't like (though "repetitive lyrics" is debatable since the chorus isn't actual words).

It sounds basically like your ideal form of music would just be spoken word/poetry.

I can see why it might confuse you. However, review the song for a second:

The lyrics start within the first 5-6 seconds. One of the things I hate most are long instrumental openings. Sure, the background beat is still distracting at times (they picked some odd noises), but there are few breaks in talking. The chorus is very short, which I don't mind. Yes, there's one longish instrumental piece which I'm not fond of and then I just skip to the next song when it hits the orchestral beat at the end. However, despite the things I don't like, it's still a good example of a normal song which I kinda like.

As for spoken word/poetry, do you have any good examples? Because what I can recall of it, it's not really storytelling. In general, if I had to pick a favorite song, I'd probably pick "Right-Hand Man" from Hamilton which is a good mix of lyrics and sound (or "Aaron Burr, Sir" or the combo of "Stay Alive" + "Ten Duel Commandments" + "Meet Me Inside")

There is a chorus, but it's barely present. Large portions are just talking set to background music which accompanies it well (and it uses sound-effects in the form of cannons)

Granted, I've known people who uncharitably described Hamilton as being a musical without any real music.

No, I don't listen to spoken word, I was just saying that you must like it since you seem to hate anything resembling music (keep in mind that the voice can be considered an instrument too)

Hate is too strong a word. I said "don't like" which is instead disinterest. There are songs I hate, but I don't hate music as a whole.

And by trying to call the human voice an instrument, you're deliberately trying to make it hard to describe or talk about anything. It also gets rid of any meaningful differentiation with the word instrument because anything that you can make a noise with then becomes an instrument.

So you don't like sports and music because you don't like believing you like sports and music so you "no true scotsman" everything you like that is sport or music?

I'm saying that the voice is an instrument when used to make a melody, i.e. singing. Speaking and shouting don't make it an instrument (usually). I just find it odd that you said you don't like instruments but you still seem to be into the voice. Is it that you only care about the lyrics? Does the musical quality to somebody's voice in a song annoy you?

Longest commute I have had is 45 minutes each way. My current one is only like 20 minutes (30 if traffic is bad). However, I do a lot of vacations as road trips since I hate flying. When I do that, I usually put on an audio book since listening to music can get kind of repetitive. Still, if you need something to stay awake nothing beets a good metal album.

Do you honestly consider pro wrestling a sport or are you just trolling? @Kyuubi4269 And if you're calling pro wrestling a sport, does that also make Game of Thrones a sport?

When you say "voice," are you talking about the organs used for speech or the sound itself? And if you are talking about the organs, that's definitely not an instrument. And how could it be?

And none of this is about things annoying although sure, there are some annoying songs; however, it's more a matter of indifference.
