Hopefully it's just benign and they just cut it out.

Just curious, do you guys not have pet insurance ? when my dogs both had to have major surgery it would have cost thousands of £££ but as we had pet insurance we had to pay the excess of like £100 and the insurance company paid the rest.

Good to here he should be fine.

How much does pet insurance cost @jkdarlow

We didn't get it because we didn't think about it and then my mom dropped our first dog and we paid several thousand dollars getting her surgery.

There are many factors in how its worked out, breed, age, medical history etc for ours i think we were paying around £15-£20 each a month for up to around £7500 worth of cover for each dog.

Both of our dogs needed monthly tablets and injections monthly before we had to put them both down making the pet insurance very much worth it.

American could be totally different though.

We were able to put our dog down at home surrounded by family, its definitely something you can do. It was only 250 for us. They gave her the sleep drug while we were holding her and then put her down.

I don't for Ernie. Due to his age I doubt he'd be able to get any now. But I definitely will be looking into it for any future puppers I get when Ernie passes away.

Fucking damn dudes Ernie had his third seizure last night, but thankfully his shortest one, at like 3:45 am and he SCREAMED like he was a woman in a horror movie getting murdered. I have never heard anything like that from a dog before. Holy shit.

i mean i guess being dead is better than having seizures but i don't know if you can really count that as "feeling better"

My thoughts on it are that I wouldn't do it. Chemo is a horrible experience for anyone to go through. It makes you feel worse than the cancer does and often times only delays death long enough for the family to make arrangements. Yes, it can and does help, but you have to be willing to go through absolute shit because you know the potential outcome.

A dog/cat really can't understand that factor. It's a massive attack to the system and I would feel horrible putting an animal through that for them to end up dying in horrible pain anyway. You can call me a monster if you want, but that's how I view it.

I have always absolutely loved my pets. But I would never pay thousands for chemotherapy for an animal.

I have thyroid pills for my old cat right now that run for around $50 per month, but that's the most I can do.

Some people will spend tens of thousands on their pets.

yeah he's alright.

it's just really shitty that that happened last night after we were worried about that lump and JUST at the vet.

the last vet i had taken ernie to said it's not uncommon for older dogs to get seizures once or twice a year and if it begins to get more frequent he may need medication for it. but it is really difficult when it happens because he emptied his bladder, seizes and then afterward he's just not himself for a little bit and he's very disoriented. i feel so bad for him and try to comfort him until he's ready to walk around and i can clean up his accident. it's really upsetting to have an elderly dog that has seizures because it reminds me that he's not going to be here forever and that his health is declining.

i feel so bad for him.

aw that's sad. i wonder if he had other issues. normally one seizure isn't enough to put a dog down for.

Dunno if you still want info but my dog has rectal cancer and he was on chemo for a bit. It didn't seem to affect him much at all, but that's probably not a normal case.

thanks for the anecdote. from what i see it appears a your mileage may vary type of thing but people really made me think about the emotional aspect of it for the dog who wouldn't really understand what is going on.
