The tarantula is sensing that the frog is poisonous by feeling it and is keeping it around so it can prey on ants that feed on spider eggs.

Tarantula actually probably did that because the frog is slippery and hard to stand on.

I saw that on Reddit, too. Had no idea about the pet-like relationship between tarantulas and frogs, it's really adorable.

Terrifying. Animals are learning to keep other animals as slaves.

I googled it. Nah the frogs are quite inedible due to toxins. They kinda get a nest full of bodyguards from the sneks and scorpions that like to eat them.

Recent studies show that aggressive tarantulas that could eat the frogs have been observed grabbing them, but letting them go alive. Which suggests that it's more than just "dis thing taste bad, me no bite."

Which is neat.

but are they gay frogs?

The chemicals in the water are turning men into women.
They're turning the freakin' frogs gay.

they suggested that the spider – well capable of killing and eating a frog of this size – used chemical cues to recognise the frogs. Young spiders have sometimes been observed to grab the frogs, examine them with their mouthparts, and then release them unharmed.

Crocraft & Hambler (1989) noted that the frog seemed to benefit from living in proximity to the spider by eating the small invertebrates that were attracted to prey remains left by the spider. The frog presumably also benefits by receiving protection: small frogs like this are preyed on by snakes and large arthropods, yet this frog is protected by a formidable spider bodyguard. Hunt (1980) suggested that the spider might gain benefit from the presence of the frog: microhylids specialise on eating ants, and ants are one of the major predators of spider eggs.
