Not gonna lie: my first impression of Community was pretty poor. It totally alienated me. Over time though, I saw bits and pieces of it, and I grew to like it quite a bit... so I had been meaning to start it from the beginning for quite some time. Yesterday, I found Season One at Best Buy for $12.99, and got started short after!
I've seen the first six episodes so far. The first three were just "pretty good," but the rest has been fantastic - better than I expected, even. Pierce and Shirley are definitely the MVPs so far, though I'm shocked to say that Abed is growing on me really fast. I didn't think too highly of him before, but I was definitely wrong in this case.
I could see this becoming one of my favorite shows, for sure!

Shirley's ****ing hilarious! She steals every single scene she's in. "This is a real paper - there's a Marmaduke in there!"

Watched the first few minutes of an episode, and then thought:
Then I turned on Modern Family instead. :P

Don't get me wrong, man! This isn't like Parks and Rec or something, where you need patience to make it through the first few episodes. I definitely liked it from the start - I just think it got a lot better after the first three.

Please tell me this guy isn't just a one-off character. He was so ****ing funny.

What was the episode that you first watched that you didn't like?
Also Pierce was really damn funny in Season 1. He's been kinda bad recently (or rather, everyone else has just been amazing).
Also did you get the DVD set? You should definitely watch all the commentary when you're done with the season. Full length commentary on EVERY episode... such an amazing DVD set for less than $20.

BEASTMASTAH!! Introduction to Statistics was really funny. Abed as Batman was great.

I can't remember! It's been a while since then. I know it was something in Season One.

Will do man! That's amazing. Most DVD sets really don't have enough commentary - just look at Entourage. Those sets only had one or two commentary tracks per season, IIRC.

From: TheCodeisBosco | #025 I'm surprised more people don't rank Britta last. I like her, but she seems like the weakest main character by a decent margin.
That's because Britta is awesome.
We did have a lot of Britta haters but I think most people warmed up to her in the third season if they hadn't already.
Britta and Troy are definitely the most improved from the early parts of the show. They completely changed their characters by season 2 in the best way.

So, Senor Chang becomes more prominent later in the series, right? The last episode I watched was Environmental Science, and I thought Chang and Jeff played really well off each other.
Also, Home Economics was a scream! Lucky Charms, chocolate milk mix and The Jeffersons... Abed seems like a cool guy to hang with.

Yeah, it's crazy. I re-watched some S1 eps today and Troy is completely different now. I think he's been kind of...Abed-ified over time. Which not only makes perfect sense, it makes him more entertaining too.

I think some of the characters got tweaked to their actors more
troy became less of the normal guy/jock and more like donglover
pierce became a total dick/awful person like chevy chase
and yeah, even though chang gets more prominent (at least in s2, in s3 he is in it slightly less...though still prob more than s1) but he is still best in season 1.

I dunno, I don't find Troy much different. *season 1 finale quote in message detail*
He just really didn't have much going on in the first season.

He was fairly different in the first however many episodes. he was like...socially competent and "cool", and they mentioned him being football captain a lot, but once the troy and abed thing really started taking off they kind of made him more nerdy.
Troy does change, though. In the beginning, he still cared about putting on a tough guy front, but after spending time with Abed, he just stopped caring. His transition was finalized in Epidemiology, when he sacrificed his image to wear the nerdy costume in an attempt to save everyone.

Well he changed a bit by then.
I was talking more about the earlier episodes, especially the ones that centred around the relationship with him and Annie - a relationship that was nixed by the end of Season 1. In those early episodes he acted a lot more like a dumb jock than he did in S2/S3.
Just watch the way he acts in that episode where him and Britta are secretly dancing and stuff for example..
