Thank you to everyone who participated, both rappers and voters. I'm sorry it dragged out so long but I'm glad we finished (perhaps I am biased there).
This tournament gave us a lot of rising stars as well as showing off the skills of some of our veterans, and I hope to see more from everyone in the future.
This ends my tenure as commissioner, and no more rap battles for a few months. HOWEVER, BBallman7 has announced that he will be starting a "boxing style" rap league with special events and big title matches. I intend to vote in it regularly even if I don't have time to rap, and I hope you all will too! I will leave it to him to post and discuss the exact setup later in this topic.
So keep checking in here for more updates on future board 8 rap stuff. Until this purges in two days.
I was thinking of having it more like a boxing style, where there are different tiers and belt holders. And instead of everyone voting we could have like 5 judges for each battle (judges being different for every battle to switch it up a bit).
I think it would solve the problem we usually have, which is when people get knocked out, the voting dies out, since people can't officially be eliminated. Also in cases where people are busy, people could always take time off because they would have to agree to any match beforehand. Once every month or so we could have a "special event" where there are title matches for all the tiers (I'm thinking there should be 3 or 4 of them depending on how many users we get) and a few other potentially exciting matchups.
In between the big events we could hold a couple weekly small battles (one verse each, no actual rebuttals, so you'd be dissing them on past events or just bars you come up with, so that the user that goes 1st isn't at a disadvantage) which would only affect someone's all time record, and move them up or down the rung a bit. If someone holds a belt for a predetermined amount of time, they can move up a tier, and if someone struggles for too long, they can move down.
It also sets up for some other original ideas we could always come up with in the future that we couldn't do before. A royal rumble style battle, or even freestyle battles where users have 10-15 minutes to come up with 4 lines. Tag team battles where two users make verses together to battle another pair. Not to mention easy differences on how each battle is different. Heavy weight title matches could be three 16 line verses, etc. I'm sure we could think of more. This also means users could join at any time which would hopefully keep this going for a while.
Knockout battle (multiple users, each user posts 1 verse each round, worst one is eliminated) Three way battle BodyBag Match (Each user posts one verse, judges vote, if it's unanimous, there's a winner, if not, there's another verse, and one less judge. Then the remaining judges vote again. This keeps going until there's a unanimous decision. Tier Jump: 2 users from separate tiers battle. Handicap match: One user starts off with votes
I'll be looking for a few cohosts as well, (these users will still be able to compete) and judges will switch off for each battle, so basically everyone in the contest will be allowed to judge as often as they want. Although there will still only be 5 judges per battle. Feel free to post any ideas or questions, nothing is set in stone yet. I'm also thinking of extending invitations to other boards as well, let me know what you guys think. And I said this before in the other topic, but the game plan is to start this up in the early summer.
