I've been trying to watch them all, but I know I'll get distracted again, so I want to make sure I finish the rest of the best ones.

Psycho, North By Northwest, Rear Window and Vertigo are the must-sees.

I really enjoyed Rebecca, Shadow of a Doubt and Strangers on a Train as well.

One people don't mention very often that I like quite a bit is Rope.

This is also very good, I believe it's shot in one take as well... or almost.

Rope is not actually shot in one take, but it is edited to appear that way.

I would say Hitchcock's principal films (according to general consensus) are, in chronological order,:

The Lodger
Blackmail
The 39 Steps
The Lady Vanishes
Rebecca
Shadow of a Doubt
Lifeboat
Notorious
Rear Window
Vertigo
North by Northwest
Psycho
The Birds

From what I've seen, "North by Northwest" and "Rear Window" were fantastic.

The 39 Steps (1935)
The Lady Vanishes (1938)
Rebecca (1940)
Shadow of a Doubt (1943)
Notorious (1946)
Dial M for Murder (1954)
Rear Window (1954)
Vertigo (1958)
North by Northwest (1959)
Pyscho (1960)
The Birds (1963)
Frenzy (1972)

May seem like a bunch but it's only ~20% of what he directed.

Rope is not actually shot in one take, but it is edited to appear that way.

Yeah, it isn't, hence all the wonky "zoom into the back of someone's shirt" takes.

(Realistically, everything he made starting with The 39 Steps and ending with The Birds is worth watching, if not out and out great, which most of them are)

Rope wasn't shot in one take because film cartridges only had ten minutes of film on them. And only half of the takes were disguised in those close-ups, the other half were standard camera cuts because a reel of film played at a theater is only twenty minutes long, and the reel switches would've been noticeable even if they disguised the take switches.

Hitch is a great guy, and an influential legendary moviemaker for sure. I don't think all his movies are superb though, for example I do find The Birds to be bad.

I do dig North by Northwest, but to me it's, well, kind of a normal thriller, though well done.

Psycho is my fav, it feels like his tightest to me, definitely rewatchable.

Seconding Rear Window and Strangers on a Train.

Of the ones I've seen

Psycho > Vertigo > North by Northwest > The Birds > Rear Window

All were pretty excellent, though.

Strangers on a train and a bunch of what most of the others have said.

Oh I guess people haven't mentioned The man who knew too much you can go watch either the original or the remake.

Don't think anyone's brought up The Trouble with Harry.

Spellbound's not usually up there in his "best" work but it certainly is part of his more famous one.

Just came in to say I randomly got to watch Psycho in like an actual movie theater last summer and it was awesome. It was sweltering hot (like, to the point where people were getting physically ill) and my roommates and I had no air conditioning. We decided to go to the movies to escape the heat and they were having some special event or something. It was only us and maybe two or three other people in the theater and it was seriously just so good. Only $5 too. Probably one of my favorite memories from school.
