Heh, yes, especially when enemies in DMD mode would take off more than a full bar of life with each hit.

I would say it's because Dante can be stunned yeah, as being impaled here clearly shows. But the sword doesn't KEEP killing him like enemies would, so he recovers. So dying in DMC is being stunned like this but then getting hacked to pieces while he's healing up.
