Yeah I was surprised to see Star Fox being this high.

My top 5 would be the same but in different positions (CT at #1, Super Metroid at #2, FFVI at #3, LttP at #4).

The only real issue I have with the list is Super Mario All-Stars at #20.

It's such an awkward game to rank. I feel like either lists should just exclude it completely or else just include it as the "Super Mario All-Stars + World" version and put it at #1 where it would then belong almost by default as the single greatest experience possibly given by a licensed SNES cartridge.

No offense to any of y'all, but I'll never understand the love for SMW. Why play it when SMB3 exists? >____> The visuals have held up well, the soundtrack's solid, but the gameplay always struck me as being awfully weak by Mario standards.

Actually though, the worst part of this list is PilotWings only being at #80. WTF is that ****.

This is actually a really interesting perspective. To me, though, SMW's level designs are noticeably worse than most other games in the series; so even though I generally prefer nonlinear platformers (such as Kirby & the Amazing Mirror and Wario Land II), I just can't get behind SMW at all.

But hey, if it wasn't for SMW, we wouldn't have Yoshi's Island. So that's something. :P

I've played 9/10 and beaten 7. I suck at fighting games so I never really beat any Street Fighter games except on low difficulty (which I'm not counting), and I never beat Star Fox because I never owned it, just rented it.

My greatest shame is that I've never played Super Metroid. <_<

The only reason I consider SMW an all-time favorite of mine is because of the game essentially supersizing the franchise's previous "non-linearity" and making it largely the focal point of the game. Also Yoshi.

Good lord, I tried to rank my top 10 SNES games, and I'm amazed at how hard it is to do:

1) Super Metroid
2) Super Mario RPG
3) Mega Man X
4) Mega Man X2
5) The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
6) Donkey Kong Country 2
7) Kirby's Dream Land 3
8) Kirby Super Star
9) Chrono Trigger
10) Super Mario World 2

On this list, I somehow had to leave off SMW, DKC, FFV and FFVI, Contra III, and Secret of Mana, plus a lot of other good games. Holy crap, the SNES is just so goddamn good.

Dream Land 3 > Super Star? Never seen that opinion before! Though I find DL3 to be a criminally underrated title, so I'm glad you've given it due respect.

Yeah I definitely don't think I'd ever place DKC2 that low if I ever played it. I have a feeling that it'd be the best Nintendo game I haven't played.

It's damn close, believe me. KSS has smoother action and lots of variety in level design/game modes, but DL3 wins out for me because of its incredible visual style, superior soundtrack, and the freakin' awesome powers and animal helpers.

I'm a bit perplexed by the list though, putting Dream Course at #38 above both SS and DL3. Dream Course is a fun game, but it's basically not even in the same ballpark as SS and DL3.

Kinda similar to why I'm confused by Star Fox at #9 on this list. That's such a weird choice.

I liked seeing Star Fox in the top 10 because it validates my belief that Star Fox 64 is the ONLY Nintendo 64 game that would attain the same level of critical acclaim if it was released today (and as of now, it's my 2nd favorite game from that generation, only behind Mario 64 and StarCraft).

Even then, the only "bad" choices in the top 10 seem to me to be Street Fighter II, Super Mario Kart, and Star Fox. Probably MMX, DKC2, and FFIV/Earthbound would be better choices, but I haven't played any game on this list aside from the top 5 and the #7 so yeah.

I was surprised not seeing Super Metroid at #1 (or even #2) seeing how all of IGN's "Top 100 Games" lists had Super Metroid higher than anything else in the SNES library. Oh well, their top 4 would be the same as my top 4 (though not the same order), and I was kinda upset when I saw A Link to the Past at #1 even though I consider it to be a god-tier game. It's probably because I'm more a fan of LttP due to it being a huge 16-bit action-adventure with plenty of cool weapons to use and magic spells to cast to get through the extremely well-crafted dungeons and because the game excels at being both cheery and gritty all at once (I feel the same way about titles like CT and Super Metroid) than I am because "it's Legend of Zelda". Also LttP just feels far more action-packed to me than later games in the series do.

Star Fox belongs towards the bottom of the 100, it's a perfect example of those aged poorly games.

I just FELT that way! I think I'll feel that way from now on whenever something Legend of Zelda gets first place in anything.

As I said, when I last played through A Link to the Past, I just forgot about the franchise's "future" success and just viewed the game as a large 16-bit adventure that I feel would be just as critically acclaimed if it came out today. Most people who consider LttP to be "that" good, however, are huge fans of the franchise, something which I'm really not (however, I have a feeling Skyward Sword could change that). The only other Zelda game I'm a big fan of is The Wind Waker (oh, I like TP, MM, and OoT a lot too, but those aren't games I'm going to defend to the death unless someone says that they're trash).

Arguably it's the same with Super Metroid (I'm more a fan of the game because it's epic as heck than I am a fan for "it's Metroid!"), but since the Metroid franchise is not as successful I don't feel that disdain at all and I feel that it's a "guilty pleasure" of mine. Right now the only VG franchise I'm a particularly big fan of is Mario, although I am expecting Final Fantasy and Metal Gear to join at some point (plus to me the Zelda series has a lot of potential - Skyward Sword looks like it could be contender for best game in the franchise so long as the controls aren't royally messed up, and even then the next "serious" Zelda title has the potential to be an all-time favorite of mine since I slightly prefer MM to OoT and slightly prefer TP to MM, and the only reason I don't regard TP to be an all-time favorite of mine is because it doesn't feel "phenomenal" enough - but that's it, to me the Zelda series is one with a lot of promise that needs to prove itself one more time).
