Like the huge loser I am, I am passing up drinking until 11 pm tonight to go play magic with a bunch of smelly nerds.

It's draft. I plan on running a 40 card land deck to confuse my opponents.

Draft all the rares since you wont be making a deck with them, then if you get any good ones sell em to the nerds.

You got guts man.

Magic is a great game and all, but I could not sit through a FNM. I've never seen a bigger gathering of the "dregs of social society".

Anime club at any college in America.

It really depends. At the store at Pitt, the crowd isn't *bad*. The crowd at the place I'm going to tonight though is terrible terrible bottom tier people.

Although I've never been to an anime club, so I won't make any judgement calls.

my local game store FNM has super nice people, and a surprising amount of small children. Everybody there seems really cool. The tournament players know that FNM isn't the place to bring a snooty attitude.

However, I have seen some of the creepiest and strangest behavior ever at FNM.

For example.

Someone shouting something. Then everyone in the room shouting it. Very odd and uncomfortable. One time someone was like "EVERYONE LOVES GIDEON" and then a bunch of people started yelling it.

My friend came 4 weeks ago and when he was playing this kid, the kids friend comes up behind him on 2 seperate occasions. The first time he rests his head on top of the other kids head and goes "just go with it". The second time he starts massasing the kids back.

For reference, the kid doing the wierd stuff looks like the wierd kid from road trip, except uglier AND with glasses.

Other wierd things included one of the girls there actually saying *trolololol* in conversation. Not laughing. Pronoucing out trololol. I wanted to call her out on it, but then I reconsidered because it would do nothing to improve an already terrible person.

That's all I can recall off the top of my head. I'll be sure to bring in more stories after tonight though.

you may think its *funny* but it's really rather sad that there are college aged students out there who are like this.

BUT THERE ARE HIGHLIGHTS

one of the more adjusted people was a dad who brought his 10 year old-ish son along. Both seemed normal and I thought it was *adorbs* that the dad was taking on his sons hobby.

It wasn't adorbs. The father who spends so much money on gaming that his wife left him, due to monetary problems and the fact he cared more about rhe MtG metagame than about their family is now pushing his son into the game. The son who looks up to the father, feels compelled to play the game his father spends so much time talking about and playing as he feels it's the only way they'll be able to connect.

I went to a prerelease once. Never again. TBQH I prefer to meet someone and then learn their hobbies and hope they line up because 90% of people that go to organized events for the hobbies I like are either up their own asses or they don't know deodorant is a good thing.

I usually go to draft events at either Legions games in the North Hills of Pittsburgh, or Phanton of the Attic in Oakland on the condition my friend is going as well.

The girl flirted with goddamn everyone, including 2 very ugly dudes and a 14 year old. It was ridiculous.

The dad was not there, but his son was. The son was a LOT more annoying without his dad there IMO.

A lot of talk again about a ton of cards I didn't know, but instead of caring what they were this time, I just nodded my head and smiled whenever they mentioned random cards I had no idea about.

Got crushed hard though.

--
Also 3 blue moons for 14.25 what the hell. Was used to geting them for 2 dollars a draft at various bars, and at this one...gues not. NEVER AGAIN.

The guy running it last time I was there didn't have a jace, but he did happen to have a Frost TItan and a Gideon (which I only saw once of, and by that time it was too late).

I just didn't have enough control to run it properly. I also drafted about 15 red cards that I ended up not using because I am still sorta bad at drafting.

Is it impossible for people to have hobbies without being completely self-destructive about them?

Ah, I usually play at this place called the Gaming Dungeon South of the city. The people there are more or less as you describe with like maybe 4 exceptions. Of course the exceptions are really cool dudes, but still lots of crappy people to wade through.

There's a new keyword Morbid in Innistrad that triggers whenever a creature has died during the turn, which means even more good Pod targets than there already are.
