Today I got tested, and out of 32 possible allergens, I am apparently significantly allergic to 27, and potentially allergic to 4 others.

Well this is ****ing sweet.

That's funny.

My parents swear I've been suffering from allergies all my life, and my test recently showed me I was allergic to nothing.

Wouldn't at least a couple of those have to be the extremely common stuff that there is no way you could have avoided for this long, like nuts, cat dander, bee stings or whatever else people are allergic to?

I had this test done (on my back) when I was in high school.

Found out I am quite allergic to shrimp (never had it, never will) and it confirmed like 10 other things I knew I was allergic to.

Good stuff.

Oh god. This topic. I'm allergic to...

1.) Pet dander (literally off the charts; the guy who ran my test hadn't seen anything so high in years)
2.) Shrimp
3.) All kinds of outdoor allergens to a greater degree than many
4.) Bleu cheese (almost deathly)

All kinds of s***.

Yes, and I take that back about never having had any shrimp.

I started taking glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate pills last winter (for my knees due to excessive tennis) and while they completely alleviated any and all knee pain, they started to make me incredibly sick.

Because it turns out they have shrimp in them.

Now I take the "vegetarian" version of the same pills and they only alleviate like 90% of my knee pain.

But I guess I shouldn't be complaining because these pills are nothing short of a miracle.

From wikipedia:

Since glucosamine is usually derived from the shells of shellfish while the allergen is within the flesh of the animals, it is probably safe even for those with shellfish allergy.[37]

I really need to test this though because I miss the effectiveness of those old pills.

I guess it could have just been a big coincidence.

But I kept taking those pills for almost a month after I got sick (because I didn't think anything of it at first then I was hoping it was a coincidence) and then not long after I stopped, I was fine.

I think I am going to start this second trial as soon as winter break starts.

Yeah, and he already got it (for the test).

But it doesn't seem like this doctor will profit off these discoveries unless he's pushing for allergy shots or something.

If all he's doing is saying "Now, don't eat shrimp" then I don't think you need to suspect ulterior motives.

Since this is the best place to post them, here are my notable allergies:

-Melon (All kinds, deathly allergic, can't even touch them without having some sort of reaction)
-Grass (I touch it, I get hives, and I absolutely can't mow a lawn. Have to be a shut in after it's mowed, actually)
-Cats (Generally only a problem if the dander gets near my mouth, nose or eyes)

There are a couple other minor ones, but all those lead to are itchiness.

From: Jeff Zero | #025
Oh, and penicillin.

Did a doctor tell you you were allergic or did you have side effects.

Because whenever a patient tells me they have a penicillin allergy I have to ask what happens. Most of the time it's like "I got diarrhea" or "my stomach gets upset". Those are usually side effects, not allergies, and the docs are probably going to give it to you anyways.

I think he means he is opposed to treatments that simply cause you to not have allergic reactions.

They have other treatments that take longer but will eventually make you less allergic to things you are allergic to and eventually not allergic to them at all if possible.

I've never actually been treated with penicillin but everyone I'm related to has an official documented issue with it so I've been advised not to bother.
