Onlive has to be pretty pumped.

The inevitable lawsuit they're going to win is probably the only money they will ever make!

Was the coupon inside the case? I was at FutureShop yesterday and they had a bunch of codes at their front desk; I assume they were giving them to customers as they purchased their copy.

GameStop considers OnLive as a competitor so it sounds reasonable that they wouldn't be happy with giving away coupons for it. If you don't agree with them removing the coupon from new copies, what do you think they should have done?

Live with it. Better idea than deceiving your customers, opening yourself up to a lawsuit, and giving said competitor far more attention than they would have received otherwise.

GameStop
Regarding the Deus Ex: Human Revolution OnLive Codes: We don’t make a habit of promoting competitive services without a formal partnership. Square Enix packed the competitor’s coupon with our DXHR product without our prior knowledge and we did pull these coupons. While the new products may be opened, we fully guarantee the condition of the discs to be new. If you find this to not be the case, please contact the store where the game was purchased and they will further assist.

Nevermind that what they're doing is massively illegal, and they're going to lose TONS of money from potential lawsuits from Onlive, SE, and consumers.

Probably just because OnLive is an easier target to push around than Valve?

Hey Gamestop, if selling the game as it comes is that big of an issue for you, then don't sell it at all.

Shouldn't have done it at all. They box says that a coupon is in there, so they are selling a product that isn't complete for new price, along with false advertising. They've been sued before for used copies of games that promised codes that didn't have them anymore since they were already used, but a new game? Thats a bigger deal

Yeah I gotta wonder why they never did this to any of the games that could be activated on Steam, which is way bigger than Onlive will ever be.

Then again, EA and Gamestop aren't exactly on the best of terms, are they? What with EA hating the used game industry and all.
EDIT: Oh, Onlive, not Origin. Derp. But still...

Oh man I miss Funcoland. Being able to walk into a store and buy NES games for a couple dollars during the PSX/N64 era was great.

Although when I picked up the Ninja Gaiden trilogy in 1997, they did give me a nonfunctional copy of Ninja Gaiden II.

You can still do that at many independent game stores!

Of course, Valve would have obliterated Gamestop in a heartbeat

The big mistake Gamestop is making here is underestimating both OnLive AND Square Enix... OnLive might not care as much since it's more of a proof of concept kind of thing than a profit machine, but Square Enix should bring out its guns soon enough.

Yeah I saw that list the other day, looks like there's none real close to me, but three within less than an hour's drive. And there's a tabletop gaming store with an extremely limited retro games section (there's usually not much but I got The Uninvited for $1 there last year), and the last time I was there I overheard someone saying they were opening a videogame shop in the next town over from me which I'm gonna keep an eye out for.
