From a quick glance around the internet, the consensus seems to be that 2, 3, 4, and 6 are the best.

4 has good minigames but the board aspects are horrid.

Anyway, this will depend on if you're playing alone or with others.

Haven't played 1 in years so I don't know where it ranks except OH DEAR GOD MY CONTROLLER IS BROKEN

2, 3, and 6 are good Mario Parties though. 5 is pretty good too if you like a lot of lead changes(I do but some hate this).

Honestly though, I'd recommend 2 or 3 if you're playing alone and 5 or 6 if you're playing with someone else.

As much as I love the first 3, I'd suggest going with 5 or 6 if you're playing with a full party of four. 5 has more craziness/randomness to it than 6 so up to you what you'd prefer there.

Any particular reason the first three aren't good for parties?

I mean other than the first game's control stick breaking shenanigans.

1 got made kind of obsolete by it's sequels. 2 is the best, 3 and 5 are both good too. Don't bother with any of the others.

Oh I didn't mean the first 3 weren't good for full parties, they're great games all around, especially 2 and 3. I just find that the item system in 5, 6, and 7 is a more enjoyable way to play with other people due to the fact that they can be used a lot more strategically than simply just getting an item and using it on yourself.


One thing I did forget though, is that Mario Party 6 has a few Mic minigames. They can be played with the controller but the fact that they are in might turn some people off. Personally I don't think it affects anything but just so you know.
