I'm just a bit miffed because I had finally launched an all-out war against three rival nations. My Marines were kicking ass and I got a Great General and decide to give one of them some experience and.... poof. Two hundred years gone.

Civ V being buggy when it launched (and it taking forever between turns) got me into the habit of saving every couple of turns.

Auto-save should be on automatically, you just have to tell it you want to see them. It saves every ten turn and keeps up to 10 of the most recent saves for each game..
