I don't listen to rap at all, not because I stereotype the genre like so many people do but just because I've never really heard anything that really clicked with my interests. Well, besides All of the Lights by Kanye West, which someone on B8 posted back when it was first released. I mostly listen to 70's/80's rock and a little 80's/90's country.
Good rap songs recommendations so I have somewhere to start looking if I like that artist, pls?

Depends what kind of rap you want. Most people only know rap for the mainstream, which is mostly not very good, and actually kind of annoying. Stuff like Lil Jon is completely awful.

Hm, I'll be linking radio edits to avoid swearing for gameFAQs purposes, but here's stuff I've been listening to recently. Note that I generally don't pay too much attention to lyrics; I'm more interested in samples and the rhythm of the whole thing.
Kanye West ft John Legend, The-Dream, Elly Jackson, Alicia Keys, Fergie, Kid Cudi, Elton John, and Rihanna - All of the Lights
Tinie Tempah ft Eric Turner - Written in the Stars
Nicki Minaj - Super Bass
Nicki Minaj - Moment for Life
I've also been listening to some German rap; I suppose I can't link Killah Queen, because she swears in English, but...
Lumaraa has some good stuff:
I didn't like Miss Mine that much the first time, but she's growing on me:
What else? Hmm...If lyrics matter to you, you should go more towards nerdcore; You should also memorize the lyrics to Wierd Al's White and Nerdy like the rest of us. I'm the wrong person to recommend nerdcore, however.
Let's see, older favourites...I used to be really into T.I., and am looking forward to him releasing new music, but T.I.'s stuff usually gets stripped from Youtube anyway, so I won't link that. And I'm sure someone's going to yell at me for being too mainstream but nyeah I don't care :P

Nas - Illmatic is the most essential rap release, in my eyes and in many others'. Song picks: Life's A B****, Halftime, It Ain't Hard To Tell A Tribe Called Quest is peace-oriented and socially conscious. A lot of rap newbies love them. Get their first three albums. Songs: Excursions, Check the Rhime, Electric Relaxation, Can I Kick It? Black Star is a group of two rappers, Mos Def and Talib Kweli, who came after Tribe but had a similar mission. They released one stellar album together, and a number of great albums separately. Songs: Black Star - Definition, Respiration; Mos Def - Mathematics; Talib Kweli - Get By, Shock Body Kanye West: The College Dropout and My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy are very, very different albums, but both are must listens. As are Late Registration and Graduation, albeit slightly less important. Songs: Through the Wire, Spaceship, Gone, Flashing Lights, Runaway OutKast is another duo with a more decadent style, but they are one of the best rap groups ever, simply put. Songs: Rosa Parks, Spottieottiedopaliscious, B.O.B., actually get everything they've ever put out. Big Boi, one of the members, has a solo album that's equally as fantastic as his group's work.
