As someone who really enjoyed MVC3, I'm very happy that UMVC3 exists. MVC3 really needed some design changes, plus, Phoenix Wright? Hell yeah. Plus, 12 new characters, new stages, new moves, rebalance, for 40 bucks? Seems fair.

So it kind of perplexes me when people talk about Capcom nickel and diming them. I didn't pay much attention to SFIV's growth, but were people this ticked off when it was announced? I sort of get the feeling that the people crying foul over this are the people that stopped playing MVC3 after 2 weeks, but maybe I'm wrong.

2. From what I've seen Rocket Raccoon has a pretty cool personality, and might make for some interesting gameplay. It seems unfair to judge him in that way. I wanted MM in more than anyone here, but that doesn't make Nemesis a bad pick by default.

When I saw the original MvC3, I mentioned so many times that a lot of people were buying it simply because of the character choices while the game, at least IMO, was not very good.

Now I find myself looking at UMvC3 and seeing them adding many characters I wanted in, and as tempted as I am to get it I know that they will have fixed nothing about the gameplay that I don't like so it would be a waste to get. Shame really, all they really needed was to add 1 thing and I'd have bought it.

I've kind of cooled down about the whole thing, but it was all about timing. The announcement came the same week that they canceled MML3, way after they shot down AAI2 coming stateside, and way after Lupinko posted about an updated version at Captivate. Not to mention that this was an upgrade coming out in the same calendar AND fiscal year to a game I already spent $60 on.

Looking back, though, it makes sense. The X-Factor changes seem too substantial to simply patch in. New moves, as well. It's one thing to merely change numbers and basic properties, but it's another to do a complete overhaul. And that's not even including DLC characters. I guess it was just frustrating knowing that I got hosed for $60 again, even if Ultimate wasn't always the plan. I wouldn't call it a waste of money, but it just feels like... robbery.

I still go back to MvC3, to answer the question.

I think this, coupled with MM not being in AGAIN, is the real reason people started freaking out over UMVC3. And it was pretty terrible, yeah, but people seem to have used it as a springboard for "This game is a ripoff" when it really isn't at all.

You can't really blame people for jumping the gun, though.

Even if you take a balanced approach to Ultimate, it's obvious that if it's not a fighting game or Resident Evil, it's getting left in the dust. Mercenaries 3D may also have been a catalyst seeing as it's basically the definition of cash-in.

I know the argument is that people who already purchased them would be upset, but what kind of argument is that? That would be like them saying that they can't price drop any games ever because it would make people who purchased them on launch day angry.

If they're that upset with it they could do the civil thing and give people who already purchased them a free $10 game off XBLA/PSN like MM10. Oh wait, that would mean they were being cool about something, which is apparently a crime for any company that was founded before 2000.

Well apparently they couldn't figure out how to give a moveset to a character with 11 games, each of which he gets no less than 8 new moves in, so I can't say I'm surprised.

I would really have liked Silver Surfer, especially because Galactus is in the game.

Rocket Raccoon still makes sense, though. I'm sure when Shuma-Gorath was revealed for MvC people went "lol what the hell who is this"

I mean he's still "who is this" but at least now people are like "oh it's the tentacle guy from Marvel vs Capcom"

one day Rocket Raccoon will be "that little raccoon with the big funs from Marvel vs Capcom"

Capcom's excuses for character not getting in have been historically ridiculous. They took out Frank from the original MVC3 because they were having framerate trouble with a zombie attack of his, when it was already done on the Wii.

The thing is that Mega Man doesn't really have super unique moves when you think about it. Quick, think of two weird moves for him that aren't a shield and a pull. A lot of his tricks boil down to "throw a projectile with X properties". Closest thing I can think of is a lead bubble shot to function as a vertical sonic boom and...uhhhhh...nothing else that shouldn't be a super move, a la Quick Flash.

I don't play many mega man games either! But going off MM 2 to 4, he really doesn't have all THAT many cool moves. If anyone else could chime in with some weapon concepts for MM maybe we could determine whether the explanation is truly bollocks or not. Like for instance, everybody remembers the Metal Blade right? So how do you represent it as a move when giving MM a Mega Buster normal is mandatory already? He'd be super hard to get down "just right" so as to avoid pissing off the fans when he plays weirdly.

PS: Not saying that him not making it in wasn't a disgrace, just thinking that it really isn't as easy as it looks to make a distinctive moveset for him.

People talk about the abundance of moves that Mega Man has, but at the end of the day, most of them are fairly unimpressive projectiles, shields, or something that can't really be translated well into a fighting game. Zero's powers were vastly different even in his home series, and given that he has a sword, he's an infinitely easier fit. You look at Mega Man's MvC2 incarnation and see that he only uses three freaking moves from his series and you have to believe that Capcom wants to do better than that.

S***, even Volnutt had more going for him.

yeah, I feel like sometimes Capcom doesn't want to really "work." They did pull off some weird movesets with people like MODOK but then they get to their flagship character and go "YEAH NO WAY IS HE UNIQUE ENOUGH" and toss him aside

People need to stop f***ing insulting Rocket Raccoon, if you knew anything about him, you would realize he's a fantastic character. He's cute, he's funny, he's got a great sense of responsibility, and he shoots big guns.

I can't wait to see him in action. I'm excited for him and Nova more than anyone else.

As for the topic, I just sold my copy of MvC3, didn't get much, didn't expect, actually got more than I thought. Either way, UMvC3 is fine, I sucked at the original, because I suck at all fighting games, but I love Marvel characters, so I had to get it. Now I have to get this one, because Hawkeye, Nova, Rocket Raccoon, and Iron Fist, f*** yeah. Virgil is pretty awesome too.

It does make more sense for them to make it a new disc anyway, because 40 dollars is less than how much you would have to spend if you bought it all as DLC.

Oh and Silver Surfer would be cool, but honestly if you think about it, especially you Zen, there's no good way to incorporate him. He usually fights with his board, and there's no way to really do that with good effect. Ghost Rider only uses his bike for a hyper. Surfer would look weird if he was just fighting normally without his board and flying around and shooting off projectiles like nobody's business. He's not much of a close quarters combat type of guy who pulls off a bunch of combos and crap.

MvC3 never should have existed at all. I mean jesus, UMvC3 is coming out 9 months later. That just says it all right there. They could've just delayed the thing til holiday season and done all of this, but instead they chose to release a beta as a $60 game, and put the real game out just a few months later for another $40.

I'd actually argue that, while another person said Mega Man's a moveset designer's wet dream, I'd argue the opposite. Phoenix Wright is.

With Mega Man, you have to meet certain expectations. There's gotta be the buster. Is this move a good fit? If we ditch Rush, they're going to be pissed. Why are all these moves projectiles, which do we pick? Mega Man has plenty of options, even if they're all basically the same, and in the end it just becomes a big mess of what you do and don't want and if it even works with you and the fans.

With Phoenix Wright, you have a blank slate for the most part. All people are expecting is an Objection, which is pretty easy. From there, you can do whatever you want, and people will either love him because he's PHOENIX WRIGHT, or hate him because he's some idiot lawyer who isn't Mega Man. Basically, less is more because it allows for more freedom.

That was the plan, actually. The suits just forced the designers to work at absolutely breakneck speed to release MvC3 ASAP. It's a miracle it came out as polished as it did, even if it was super barebones. The balanacing was top notch beyond like three characters and some X-Factor flippy ****.

Oh man that's cool. Now I wish they would have taken the time for him, but not at the expense of one of the characters they already revealed. If I had to choose between Cosmic characters, Nova would for sure get my fullest support, as he is one of my favorite superheroes. Although if they got rid of Ghost Rider in exchange for Surfer, I would be plenty happy with that, and it would support Cosmic Marvel more too.
