Why do you rarely post here?

Being a mid-level software developer allows me to mess around on the computer a lot, but I just find my spare time better spent browsing through Reddit's top posts or reading webcomics. Most of the cliques or discussion topics around here aren't really for me. I feel disconnected from the general demographic / interest group sometimes. Also, I'm not much of a gamer anymore and haven't been for a few years. I occasionally think of starting projects on this board, but I never really spend the requisite amount of time brainstorming. When I get home I waste time in less productive ways, and if I actually had the free time, I'd probably be more likely to spend it on a different kind of side project, like coding a video game or making my website.

Will you save us in our hour of need?

The blind oracle spoke of the seventh storm of the season, which would bring about an age of chaos and confusion throughout the lands. Empires would fall, and thugs and gangs would rise to power, oppressing the weak and dishonoring the natural order of the universe. On the shores of Dystopia, one man would see the state of the world and fully grasp its wrongness as no other man could. The populace grew to distrust him, but the criminal lords grew to fear him. One man, against the world, to set things right, to restore mankind to its proper place. Until ONE day!!!! - a mysteeeerious lab accident turned him into..... a puppy! And he's about to find out..... that saving mankind - iiiiisn't so easy. This summer... Rob Schneider is... Barkalark! Rated PG-13.

Can you see yourself running another writing contest in the future?

I'd like to see some other people have a go at it; I'd support sephsblade rebooting it. I think the problem with his contest was it was so soon after mine that people were burnt out. The history of the contest has basically consisted of extended hiatuses and everyone taking their turn. It's not to say I wouldn't be interested - if we go for too long without one, I'd totally consider starting it back up again. But with my lack of free time, projects aren't usually on my mind. And when they are, I'm usually thinking about something different from what I've usually done on this board. SeaworthyReally and I were too ambitious with our last project and couldn't get it off the ground, but that's the sort of thing I mean. I think just a vanilla CYOA might be more my speed nowadays.

Ah, I see. Must be hard in the real world. A vanilla CYOA sounds good though *wink wink nudge nudge*

What's your opinion on your job? What are some good and bad points about it?

Can you see yourself running without the use of a mirror?

If you define "mirror" as "reflective glass", then yeah, there are plenty of surfaces with varying amounts of reflectivity but that wouldn't fall into the category of "mirrors" - polished stone, or calm water. The problem becomes slightly more interesting if you define "mirror" to mean "any reflective surface" - but even then, the answer is trivially "yes" because at any given moment, you can direct your gaze so that you can see your arms, your legs, or even your nose. You may protest that you meant to ask if I could see "all of me" - but you can never really see all of someone at once unless you flay them apart or look at different ranges of x-rays and ultrasounds. Throwing away those answers and understanding what you REALLY meant to ask me, the problem boils down to, "Given that I am running, how may I see my own body as though from the eyes of a second observer?" Alas, there is still the trivial answer of satellite imagery. I think the sort of answer you'd like is for me to construct some sort of round-the-world radio telescope, mount it on a treadmill, and run with it in front of me, which would take an absurd amount of time, money and bribing world governments to look the other way; I'm not a telescope expert, so I don't know if you can do this with a curved tube, but I figure even if the image gets distorted, I'd technically be seeing myself. Oh, I have a better answer, though! Connect a wireless receiver to my skull and have a camera rigged up behind me to send signals directly to my visual cortex. It cuts out the cheap middle man of the video screen I'd need with the boring camcorder answer, and it's a sufficiently nerdy answer to satisfy the flavor of the question. We don't have ALL of that technology yet, but scientists have gotten blind patients to see flashes of colored light before, so I figure this will be possible within 5-15 years.
