I keep getting the "angry" vibe every time I go over to one of the Halo boards, or whenever I hear most people on X-Box live.
Is there something about the series that makes people inherently angry?

I knew a guy in college that would play Halo and get SUPER ANGRY and just start screaming at the screen/xbox live. I think it was mostly just for fun though cuz it was hilarious to watch.
I used to get angry every time I played Halo at my friend's. It's pretty annoying to be scoffed at by 10-year-olds in chipmunk voices telling me how much I suck because I don't know which weapons are better than which or how to navigate the maps.

This sounds like the main reason.
It's usually not about the fact that you did poorly, but about somebody pointing out how much better at this he is.
When I get pissed off at an online game (Which is shamefully common) I can only picture some smug bastard on the other end silently judging me and thinking about how much of a scrub I am.

No. It just seems like it sometimes. The Halo boards seem like angry places too.
@ Biolizard: Yes. I so know that feeling. Only, I don't imagine them being silent in their judgement.
I don't know. Maybe it's more of an FPS thing, as I have heard some insane stuff about Call of Duty. Or maybe it's a competitiveness thing.

Warcraft 3 is filled with mostly lovely people, and only occasional bad people. All hail RTS, the gentleman's genre. I haven't played Civ 5 online but I suspect there's mostly nice people there too. My small amount of GGPO Third Strike suggests to me that fighting game (or at least GGPO) has a pleasant userbase also.
Also they are angry because they are playing Halo instead of Timesplitters. I'd be upset too!

I actually like 360 alot, but I also know how to make fun. It's a lot better than always *****ing about how the board likes a different console than you do. Who ****ing cares?

My Japanese alter-ego. Hey all this is Bartz btw.
I admit, I get pissed when I play Reach. But only when I get killed by a camper. But then I just go back and throw a plasma grenade on their face and I feel tons better.
I get ticked sometimes when: 1) I have a fair amount of bad luck. 2) When my whole team and I get murdered by ONE banshee. 3) Campers. 4) When I have to go up against a team of insanely high ranking guys and, somehow, half my team quits. 5) When my shots don't register.
It's usually short lived, and mostly me raging at myself for not being better (and sometimes at them for cheese).
Also, T-bagging is one of the dumbest things I've seen.

Every match I've played of Shogun 2 Total War has been pleasant. Great fanbase. I feel like I'm playing a friendly game of chess or something

I just discovered how fun it is to fake an accent online. That seemed to lighten things up.

SC2's got a good fanbase too. While you do have dicks, there's a lot of friendly people who will joke around with you as you kick their ass. TF2 also has a remarkably consistently awesome playerbase, perhaps the best of any game.
I'm not sure, but I think the Armored Core fanbase is full of very irate people.

Are we talking about the actual game or the forums? The Steam TF2 forums are god awful abominations, but the players of the game itself are almost always chill, good humored people.

A decent number of TF2 fans seem pretty irritating on forums, whether they're seasoned players, newbies, or in between. I haven't played the game itself (yet), though, so hopefully the in-game community is more civil!
Also, I have to stress this: to anyone who hasn't heard about the Energy Ball Jellicent/"Somalian Suicide" incident, please check out that link I posted! I swear, I was almost in tears from laughing so hard.

TF2's community will depend on just what servers you go onto. Found a good rotation server? It's probably full of a good, fun community. Got into the random 24/7 2Fort server? Well...
I get the feeling that most of the people complaining about hats, etc, on forums don't really play the game much in the first place.
isn't gaming a form of entertainment aka having fun aka not being angry
some people are just dumb I guess. If I'd get angry at a game I'd just stop playing. I almost never get frustrated though, only when I have to do the same part over and over again or something because I can't get past it. But that's not multiplayer so lol

When players value victory, it frustrates them when the fail. Also, the whole "competitive" thing really drives the rage up, I think. Sometimes, people just get too serious and forget that it's just a game.

I don't have that thrive to be 'the best' when it comes to games I guess. Sure, I have more fun when I'm winning but it doesn't mean I don't have fun when I'm losing.

You must be a rare breed. When I loose and get frustrated about it, it's because: A. I made a mistake or could have done better.
or
B. I'm not even getting a chance to do anything. (I.E. My team is down to like 3 guys against 8 high ranking guys in warthogs, tanks, and ghosts, with snipers picking us off, and no place to hide.)
The first one is my problem, but I honestly doubt the second is fun for anyone.
