Without a doubt the biggest scandal in the history of college sports.

I imagine something similar was going on during the Wooden days at UCLA with Dan Gilbert but No one did this kind of digging back then.

Wonders who's next on yahoo sports' list.

When you look at all the details they really didn't have much on Ohio State. And by sacrificing Tressel they've likely significantly reduced the penalties from what infractions did occur.

They'll probably end up with a slap on the wrist. It's unfortunate what happened to Tressel though. I really don't think he knew much of what was going on and by all accounts is a solid guy.

No.

The NCAA will never do the death penalty again, unless something like this happens, and then it happens again and again over the course of the next few years and Miami keeps going "don't worry, we'll fix it".

They saw what they did to SMU (destroyed the college program for decades), and they won't do it again unless the college president comes out and pisses on them in a public forum. I mean, LITERALLY pisses on them.

Miami is still going to be ****ed though!

Tressel knew months in advance what was going on and was emailing back and forth with people associated with the players in an attempt to cover it up. Then, when it came out what the players did, he went in front of the NCAA and said he had no idea, so they allowed the players to play in the Sugar Bowl, which made the university millions of dollars.

And that's the reason why I don't think there should be a Death Penalty. If they set a precedent for Miami, then we may see a bunch of programs get hammered when more of this comes out.

The NCAA probably knew everything and let them play anyway. NCAA has no problem making money off these star athletes. They're probably no better than the Tressels of the world.

So another program is obviously corrupt and the NCAA turned a blind eye until they'd made any potential money off of the stars involved.

Surprise surprise.

If the NCAA had a shred of dignity they would DP Miami and hammer a bunch of other schools as well, but they never will because the entire organization is a farce.

The Athletic Director at "the U" during the timeframe in which Shapiro did most of his damage was also the chairman for the Committee of Infractions during the investigations in the USC stars OJ Mayo and Reggie Bush and also handed down the ruling on the Derrick Rose situation at Memphis.

John Caliparis been taking subtle jabs at him on Twitter all day. He's been tagging tweets with the phrase "strict liability", a term that Dee used to explain why Memphis season was vacated despite the fact that Rose was cleared to play twice before he ever stepped foot on the court at Memphis.

Ofcourse they can't do anything to Paul Dee over this because he's retired now.

Unfortunately, I enjoy college football too much to see a bunch of power programs get wiped off the map.

The NCAA needs to make a bunch of changes of its own, for starters.

If the NCAA had a shred of dignity they would've started paying these players years ago. Yeah, they get scholarhships, yadda yadda yadda. Star college players are worth more than that, as evidenced by the billions of dollars the NCAA pulls in every year. It's a professional league with amateur athletes, and that's dumb as hell.

NCAA big wigs don't want to share with the guys they're making the money off of. Why should they when it's so easy for them to hide behind this "model of amateurism" crap.

Yahoo is slowly killing college football. How the hell they kept managed keep all this quiet during a near two year investigation is incredible. I mean there have been rumors going around for a while now that one of the big three Florida programs was about to go down but no real details.

Also there are rumblings that Alabama may be next.

Well I fully commend Yahoo for what they're doing. Everyone knows that every major D1 school has rampant boosting, and exposing them tarnishes NCAA's credibility and costs them money. They don't want these big schools out of bowl games any more than anyone else. Eventually they'll have to break down and reform in a big way, and hopefully they'll come out of that with salaries for players.

I hope they do get the death penalty, because I think it makes their story even better- they come out of ******* nowhere in the 80's, dominate, and then after a few average years, get utterly destroyed forever. Epic. It's like a great TV show being canceled when it's past its prime.

All the schools are cheating. Some are just better at it than others.

Also, I really don't know what "rules" you're going to put into effect that are somehow going to stop private citizens from choosing to give money or gifts to poor athletes.
