First month SNES reviews


How does Super Mario World have a 4.4 for challenge, but Super Ghouls n Ghosts has a 4.3 and Final Fight a 3.8 and Super R-Type a 3.5? What does the challenge score even mean at this point?

Issue 9, NES Play Action Football, just because that was in the top 30 for a few months and I want to see how they hyped up that pile of garbage game so much.

Issue 28, Wurm, just because I'd be the only person ever interested in seeing that review <_<

okay I'm back

Issue 19 was an strategy guide dedicated to NES Play Action Football so it got a fair bit of hype. I don't recall it scoring particularly well but new hardware always gets inflated reviews. (see all the SNES scores)

I'll look into the rest.

Seriously, poring over Nintendo Power's level maps was the next best thing to actually playing the games! Which is to say it's not much like playing the game at all but GOD DAMN did it make you want to play each and every one of those games. I must have spent an entire summer reading the NES Game Atlas. Complete maps for Super Mario Bros 1-3, Zelda 1&2, Castlevania 1-3, Mega Man 1-3, TMNT 1&2, Ninja Gaiden 1&2, Ducktales, Chip & Dale, and StarTropics! Metroid was conspicuous by its absence, probably because it was an older game without a newer NES sequel.
