CT's been in my top 5 for weeks now. I don't have the "previous rankings" available because my laptop's away being fixed, but it was #2 last week as well, could've easily been #1 this week with my previous #1 losing but my #3 just scored a win over my #6 so it jumped over it.

And yeah, I'm not sure what to make of that 8-karma account with the bizarre capitalization. The ballot itself seems fairly sound--the only one that no one else has on their ballot is Skies of Arcadia, and I probably have that game somewhere in the 31-40 range because it definitely has done plenty to impress.

Edit: Wait...low karma, bad capitalization, but actually seems to vaguely have a decent idea what's going on...clearly that account belongs to someone who only just turned 13!

And Leon...that argument only works if the 9-vote win over ALttP happened just this week as well. I'm not denying that the win over ALttP is impressive, but SM64 has more...wait...

Despite your argument clearly being an attempt to troll me, it did help me to realize that I forgot to take into account the fact that Symphony of the Night is now on my ballot and I can't disparage it any more. Of course, I think FFVIII and Tales of Symphonia returning to my ballot as well counterbalances that as far as SM64 is concerned, but now I'm left to reconsider the rest of SotN's opponents' places. Okay...move MK64 back up to 15th and bump SF64 down to 16th, and move Ocarina of Time up to 19th, bump FFVIII down to 20th and MGS to 21st. Hmm...and actually, as a further consequence not only of SotN itself but also of Ocarina moving up, move SMB3 up to 3rd and bump RE4 down to 4th.

No, it doesn't. Don't be dumb. If you're judging the best game in the contest right now, you take everything into account, and there's nothing Mario 64 has done that puts it over CT.

And you're pretty much indicating that a 2 vote win over FFX was impressive enough to now make Mario 64 better than CT since you weren't ranking Mario 64 above CT before.

So go figure.

Once again, failing to take into account quality of the win and you're just taking the W/L at face value.

Keep in mind, CT's SoS is noticeably better than Mario 64's, so you can't argue Mario 64 deserves to be ahead based on the opponents it's faced.

Or how badly it's beaten the ranked opponents it's faced considering CT handily defeated Mario 3 while Mario 64 won by a single vote.

Correct. CT was ahead of SM64 before, but by beating another highly-ranked game, SM64 moves ahead--barely. Next week, it could be different. CT's opponent has a worse record (4-9, vs. 7-6 for SM64's opponent), but I've already expressed my opinion that SoMI isn't as good as their record indicates due to high levels of fodder in the schedule, and on top of that it's a common opponent so if SM64 does a lot worse than CT did it could be a turnaround. I suspect that what their past opponents do next week could have quite the effect, too. Should also be interesting to see what stirs up behind them, as well--RE4 is undefeated and has a strong opponent, but doesn't have enough meat in the past to get by; SMB3 has the meat and the strong upcoming opponent, but lost to both of the games ahead of it. And of course, "strong opponent" isn't always a good thing, because it also means a potential loss. So really, I haven't the slightest idea what next week's ballot might look like. It looks like there's a bit of a gap between #2 and #3 this week, but with both of the top 2 facing weaker opponents, next week's #7 could be week 15's #2. (Because, of course, the top 2 are facing each other in Week 15--the loser could very well be only 3rd or 4th.)

But that's beside the point. The point is that you misinterpreted my remarks about the CT-ALttP match. I didn't say that the low votals made it any less impressive for Chrono Trigger; I said that the low votals made it (the match) a disappointment. Seriously, ALttP was ranked #2 at the time. A #1 vs. #2 can't even draw 50 votes? That's a seriously disappointing outcome. Chrono Trigger almost breaking 60% on the #2 game (at the time) is still incredibly impressive.

CT vs. Mario 3 isn't an SFF match; SM64 vs. Mario 3 is. I admit that when SFF is involved, I pretty much don't care about MoV; hell, if its SOS weren't so goddamn horrible otherwise, FFVII would actually deserve a lot of credit for scoring a blowout against FFVIII, because in this particular contest SFF has had a tendency toward close matches. It's just hard for me to take FFVII seriously when its second-most impressive win is, uh...well, I guess actually that would be tripling Shadow of the Colossus this week. It's not even like it came close in its losses, either, even though they were to quality opponents.

This is only a valid argument if it's a blowout, not if it's a 1-vote victory where either side could've won on any given day.

Mario 3, Mario World, and Mario 64 are essentially equals based on the matches that they've had.

Also, the fact that CT faced SA1 isn't a basis for putting it below Mario 64 because it still destroyed it like it should have. You keep throwing around this idea that "CT is facing weak opponents (which is a pretty faulty assumption to begin with at this point in time) so it should be punished for it," which I don't agree with. If CT starts struggling to beat or blowout weak opponents, then you'd have a leg to stand on with that argument.
