I'll admit that I was wrong. It's a pretty good show. The first 13-15 episodes WERE pretty terrible, but after that it's pretty good. I have some complaints, namely that Panda that hangs around the Xingese girl. Also, the story has much less of a human element to it, instead focusing on being "cool" instead of emotional (though it has its emotional moments as well).
There are a few things I really like:
The expanded role of Barry the Chopper. Him hanging out with Mustang's crew was pretty awesome, as was his death scene. That whole section was pretty cool, when they were trying to flush out the leader of the homunculi.
Scar's team. I really like that Yoki and Marcoh are part of his entourage. Pretty neat.
I don't really care for the Alkahestry. It was neat at first, but the fact that it seems like it is going to just be a plot device so that Edward and Alphonse can fight the main villain kind of sucks. The name kind of sucks too. I would have called it Alchistry. Instead it sounds like Alchehistory.

Yeah the first 13-15 episodes were complete throwaways that they were forced to include for the 10 people who hadn't seen all of the events at least once already. From there on it's one of the best manga adaptations ever.
My big problem really is the terrible soundtrack. Not only is the music just bad, but the director seriously misuses it, using songs or motifs or even sound at all at times that are inappropriate

Stretching out the State Alchemist Exam to an EPISODE? That's worst than DBZ. It was like 30 seconds in FMAB.
Consider the fact that a lot of the Alchemy Exam episode was spent building the relationship between the Elrics and the Tuckers, making the next episode way more emotional than how it was handled in Brotherhood.

Yeah the Tucker thing I thought was better in the original too.
"Filler" I was more talking about the random stuff like the episodes with the mining company, the random ass episode with the zombie (episode 4), the episode with Psiren the Thief (though I kinda liked her) etc etc.

I'm aware, but neither of these two particularly need this episode for character development or anything. The only real purpose it serves is "oh hey I remember her." FMA: B gives this episode like 10 seconds so it's pretty clear they didn't think Yoki (who is more major than Lyra in the episode) didn't even need it.

My only problem with the first 13-15 episodes was that Hughes didn't get enough screentime so his scene midway through the anime wasn't nearly as impactful.

Kimblee is so much better in Brotherhood that he might as well be a different character. Goes from mad bomber to composed, twisted social darwinist with phenomenal fashion sense and style.
And Major Armstrong is the other social darwinist of the series. She doesn't f*** around.
