cheering for

usually I try to find any reason to root for a certain team while I'm watching a game that isn't my team.. Just watching isn't as much fun.

It's often rooting against the other team though

A real man would cheer for the other team and boo their team! It will cause the team to strive harder for their adoration!

Cheering for, because rooting against doesn't actually make me any happier when they lose. It just stops me from being more angry.

I don't derive a tremendous amount of joy from my teams doing well. It's more like "good for them" and I'm kind of happy for a day or two and that's it.

Watching other people fail, however, is something I can truly relish. I wanted Brett Favre to come back again because I loved watching him drag his battered old man body up off the ground and limp into the huddle time and time again.

I can do both. it also depends on the sport, for baseball I only watch red sox games so I always cheer for them, I watch a lot of random football games so when the pats aren't on I have to weigh my hatred more often than not. for instance ravens vs steelers, ray lewis is a murderer and roethlisberger is a serial rapist, I have to decide which is worse

If you're really rooting against a team then you'd also be cheering for the other team!
