Evo 2011 was the best Evo ever, so naturally somebody needs to recap it and link to the best moments.
Though to be honest, this is more like 'best MVC3/SF4 moments' since the other games didn't have nearly the same level of hype or anticipation. Apologies in advance for those who really liked the BB finals (which a lot of people did!) or Bob vs. Bob vs. Law vs. Bob vs. Bob vs. Law. MK9 had a really fun top 8 but the game doesn't seem to lend itself to dramatic moments or comebacks. So, lots of Capcom in this top 15.
-Poongko unleashes the Beast on Daigo -Latif over Daigo -Latif over almost everybody, really -Tron Bonne for the reset -YOU PRESSED THE WRONG BUTTON!!! -ArisxKayo Commentary -Sparks and his Fort Knox defense at Blazblue -Noah -Justin Wong perfected at MvC at EVO grand stage -Viscant winning EVO

I'm not really sure what to say about this one. The last thing I expected to see against a Yun was for someone to triple dash and ultra. It's the most random thing from one of the best players in Japan. One second he's content to sit there building meter and the next, Xian is eliminated. I feel like this is a total guess but with someone that good, you just have to give him credit and say wow.
I also gotta note that EVO got some really great commentators in Ultradavid and S-Kill. Fighting game commentary isn't easy. People usually fall into the "attempt to be funny and do stupid meme" pastiche that just comes off as forced and phony, or they just call out what's happening on the screen, which is just irritating because WE CAN SEE THAT, THANKS COMMENTATOR GUY! But UltraDavid/S-Kill(and several other commentators) can explain not just what is going on, but WHY the player is doing what he is doing, and they're genuinely funny. When they get hype, it sounds round and you can't help but get hype along with them.
Somebody post the picture where S-Kill does his best Jackie Chan impression with his hands on his forehead.

Daigo isn't great at Marvel like he is at SF4 -- not even close. Sometimes he needs a miracle just to beat a mid-tier player. Even so, beating Daigo on stream with 32000 people watching is pretty much the most important day of this dude's life.
Daigo needs to win this match or he's out of the tournament. It's his three guys vs. a Dark Phoenix. showstopper tears through Wolverine and Dante, leaving Daigo without much of a chance.
X-factor. Random super. Game. That's Marvel, baby.
showstopper loses his **** and starts storming around the stage. He launches his stick while Daigo is just sitting there. The camera only catches it for a second, but Daigo has this huge grin on his face. It's a perfect "u mad?" face.
This kind of thing could only happen when a guy chokes against one of the all-time greats. You don't get this kind of reaction if it was some random dude. It doesn't even matter that Daigo's only so-so at Marvel. This is Daigo Umehara.
This moment is made even better by the fact that it was Dark Phoenix being owned. I think Daigo got perfected by someone else to get sent home, but his Marvel run will be memorable for this alone.
that picture happened for the PR Rog/Wong perfect in loser's finals. that's my #16 - it just didn't have the same gravitas that some of the other huge comebacks did. Marvel is made for that stuff.
This match is just goofy. Phoenix on point. Level 1 X-factor to start the match. Deathwish blows up Commy and then gets destroyed.
Then there's a weird button check that I'm not entirely sure what happens and he does it again.
It's the commentators that sell this match. They are absolutely stupified. He's using Phoenix as a character! So funny. So good. The third match is the best part.

Deathwish! ...Deathwish! yo.... Deathwish!
Oh my god was that whole button check just some psych out strategy?
Before this match, I should set up the history here.
In Vanilla SF4, Shiro was hands-down the best Abel in the world. He was top 10 in the arcade's BP and constantly beat Daigo in high-profile matches. Justin Wong tried to play Abel against Daigo in 2009 solely because of how shaky Daigo looked in his matches against Shiro. Daigo rocked him and Wong switched to Balrog and they had one of the hugest finals of all time. Nothing showed the gap between Americans and the Japanese more than Wong trying to duplicate Shiro's success.
So here's Juicebox, a goofy kid who plays Abel and dances out his ultras. He's good but not a top-tier American player. He's playing the best Abel of all time, now having switched over to Makoto.
Juicebox gets into his head hard. He uses ultra 1 to punish a backdash of Makoto's. Then in round 2, he starts guessing that Makoto will try to jump after a knockdown and punishes him twice, once by using a psychic Falling Sky. Shiro just looks mindblown. Juicebox isn't so fortunate in later rounds but still outpositions him to take the match cleanly.
That's not all Juicebox did. The match before that was against CJ Truth, a 13 year old kid who's going to be very, very good. He basically does the same thing that Shiro did to Xian - builds meter in a hopeless situation, nails him with a combo, fadc ultra with Juri, complete with him doing the kiss and THIS IS THE END FOR YOU. Juicebox's Juri was great - the only really good Juri I saw at Evo this year. See it here --
In top 16, Juicebox has to face Tokido, undoubtedly one of the top 5 players in the world. He lost but put up a great fight. He may have been the star of SF4 day 2.

This was the best
Especially the second and third match where he just blows the whole team up with Phoenix point. So good. If I get back into Marvel I'm stealing this guy's strategy.

"My heart's beatin, my heart's beatin, my hands are shakin, my hands are shakin, but i'm still executing, it's like BOOM! ULTRA, BOOM! ULTRA, BOOM! ULTRA, BO-OM! UL-TRA!"
man. what can you even say here? I guess you are rarely in a situation where Deadpool is in long enough to be able to teleport three times. it's just not something you think about, especially in a pressure match like Evo vs. Mike Ross.
the KO on this match is awesome. it's just one massive explosion. I'm amazed the commentators even knew what happened - it would have been better if they sold it better and went "wait, what the hell? uhh... oh. hahahaha what an idiot!"
If Deadpool teleports 3 times without tagging he blows up and hits himself for minuscule damage. The fact that his health was just low enough that that killed him directly is pretty amazing. Even with an apparently empty lifebar the "magic pixel" would've saved him most of the time.

Some_Character posted... As someone who knows next to nothing about MvC3, what even happened there?
Deadpool has a teleport. Every 3 times you use it, it explodes, dealing a tiny bit of damage to you.
This guy not only made a huge comeback with Deadpool, something that has never happened, he forgot about the teleporter and had just little life enough to kill himself with it.
