I've put this game off for way too long. I loved Persona 3 and naturally continued on to the next one. But I got stuck at one of first the bosses and stopped playing for quite awhile. I finally beat her with some help and then stopped again. I was originally going to follow the guide that lets you get every social link full before the end of the game (something the really bothered me in P3). But I've decided against it now because it's too much effort and I spoil too much.
Anyway, I'm going to play for a bit so I can summarize where I am at this point and give some better thoughts. Hopefully this topics keeps me motivated to play since I know a lot of you really love it.
Standard rules, please don't post spoilers until I've gotten to that point. Tips and suggestions are welcomed if I'm close to something happening. Especially if it's going to screw me in the long run - I'm remembering how I missed out on starting a few social links with the ladies in P3 for a few months... ugh.
Okay so it's May 5 and I just got Yukiko to join my group. I went into the TV to do some training and there was a fun scene with some goofy glasses Teddie made. I reached the end of the level because he told me there was some shadow there but then I remembered everyone told me this guy was way too hard right now so I just kept leveling. Everyone's about level 16 now and I was introduced to a new game after the cards. Apparently I can choose to activate an arcana card. It seemed pretty good as nothing bad has happened so far except I just got a death card and it made me leave the level. Oh and do these cards ever give you weapon/money/exp bonuses like P# did? I thought I could skip to the 7th floor from the start but no one gave me that option - what gives? Anyway I didn't want to walk back up so I left.
I picked up a few of those part time jobs. The envelope one and the translator. Seems pretty cool but I decided not to get the one that pays a lot because it specified days, does that just mean when I can do it or do I have to go there on those days? I'm becoming stressed again like I usually do because there's so little time during the day and so much I want to do....
I got a quick little scene during the last midnight channel of some guy standing out in the fog. And now my foster dad (I think) cancelled our family trip because he's a workaholic.
Augh every topic I see like this reminds me I still need to finish the game. I stopped at probably an odd spot to stop, but that's because I had spoiled myself. Some day.
Fun game, though. Enjoy it and hopefully you can get through it in one playthrough.

So I was able to start a few more social links. I got my dad and this fox. I thought the fox was going to join my party which would have been pretty cool but it turns out he's just a little ***** that wants money. I didn't really use the shrine in P3 so I doubt I'll use it this time either. I tried to start one with Yukiko but she's weird when I talk to her. It didn't mention I need my courage or anything up so I don't know what to do - help? And about how often should I go to level up?

You can sign up for the jobs whenever but can only work on those days. You should still pick them up (when your stats allow you to) though.

Fight like dragons, have no fear, swords are made of STEEEEEEEEL~
Pretty funny, just played that scene. Now I'm looking for this guy that went missing or the last person to see him. Am I actually supposed to find the guy with the hat or should I end the day and I'll find him some other time? And I've been getting a bunch of quests, do these items only appear after I've accepted them? Are there deadlines like P3 had?

The gathering information portions can be tricky. You have to follow the clues you are given from conversations, and sometimes it will take a couple of in-game days to gather it all because people show up at different times.
Items for quests only show up after accepting them. There is no deadline, but the rewards don't change, so you could get like a 50HP healing item when you have 1000HP.

Ah good, and yeah I just randomly talked to a guy who was like... yeah I know who you're talking about I usually see him on tuesdays, thursdays and holidays.... kinda creepy.

Alright so I met up with him and he gave me a clue so I can go on to the next level. I went right away and decided to level up at the castle and search for some of these items people want me to do. How hard is this boss coming up? Any Persona I desperately need?

The next boss? Hard, but not as hard as Yukiko's. As long as you're careful, you should be able to get by with just about any Persona.

If you want to speed levelling up a bit, you can try something a little risky that I like to do. Upon unlocking a new dungeon, I just run straight through to the end (occasionally jumping out with a Go-Hom thingy to save progress) and save at the pre-boss checkpoint. I then start fighting battles against the enemies on the top couple of floors, saving whenever I win. The reason this is so effective is because the level difference between your characters and the enemy you beat plays a huge part in how much experience each character gets (to the point where if you fight enemies even only a few levels below you, the experience gained drops off a cliff). The downside is missing out on chests, of course, but there's not too much to be found that's great in the early dungeons anyway.

That's what I was thinking. It's hard to get used to using save points after playing so many PS3 games.
Any Personas are automatically saved right? It's just you have to do it manually if you level them up. I'm getting a bunch and just replacing them out hoping I can get them later whenever I want. I think that's how it was in P3 but I'm not sure, hope I'm right!

May 19 Did a lot of leveling up in the bathhouse level. Almost died to the miniboss and I would have been pissed because of all the leveling I had done. I got to save point and was out of SP by then so I called it a day. Probably gonna level up some more before taking on the boss. Fused a bunch of new personas, most notably JACK FROST baby. This guy was my go to guy in P3 and I was so sad the day I got rid of him. The Magician s link is level 5 so he leveled up a bunch and I got a second level Bufu attack.
I established the temperance s link... looks like I'm going to be going after this milf!
Still trying to get used to the changes like enemies getting a "one more" after doing a group attack where only one of my guys has the weakness, that's pretty dumb.
Real question: when does that singer babe join my team? And where are my animated cut scenes?? Hopefully there are plenty.
And to finish off the night I took a stab at the boss and got slaughtered by his charged up attack. Looks like I need to level up some more.

I went and leveled up some more. Still don't really have a strategy for the Kanji boss. Completed a few quests and leveled some more social links. Got the Fox to level two and started the next one. I found the girl who doesn't want to eat snacks but I have no idea what to give her... fish maybe?

So yeah, spent a lot of time taking on Kanji's boss. Finally figured out a good pattern after switching healers and attackers around. It still sucks Chie doesn't have Dia. Beat him on the sixth try and checking the week to come looks like I have plenty of time left before the fog rolls in. Gonna take a break for awhile, going out of town this weekend so if someone could please keep this bumped until SUNDAY please. Thank you.
