My first playthrough of Bioshock, I did survivor difficulty with Vita Chambers off. I got my ass kicked.

It's not a survival horror, loot every body/bin/miscellaneous storage container and you'll have enough money to use your weapons without running out of ammo.

BioShock is one of the few games that you get more out of the less help you get.

There are certain ways to break the game that you normally wouldn't try, so just play it however you want to!

Yeah hard mode with no vita chambers is brutal, especially the Big Daddys. (at least early on).

The most important thing is to take it slow if possible, always plan out how you'll deal with enemies if you can see them ahead of time.

Oh, I guess there IS one word of advice that is tremendously helpful early on. Big Daddies will NOT attack you unless you attack them. You can sit there and run circles around him, and the most he'll do is shove you away from the Little Sister. Don't try and push your luck, because if you hang around the Little Sister enough, I think he'll attack, but other than that, you don't even really have to worry about him until you want to.
