Since I consider you the B8 FPS guy, what are your thoughts on Team Fortress 2? Is it one of the great FPS games that'll be looked on as important and very influential, or just as a fun game that's kinda there?

also anyone else can chip in

TF2 is overrated, but it's not like there's any other good options out there. TF2 is to the FPS as FF10 is to the RPG if the only other RPG that existed was Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World.

Hard to say what will be considered influential, but I wouldn't say so. I expect it to be remembered as a standard, but unless someone adopts the weapon loading system, I don't see what WOULD be taken from it.

I absolutely love it though <3

Yeah no. I know you have this unnatural and unfounded hate for TF2, but the game is incredibly solid in both design, balance, and execution, with tons of amazing free content and a massively involved community. It is one of the best, most polished FPS games in history, and the only reason it doesn't look like it will be particularly influential is that it doesn't do a whole lot new.

The problem with community-created content is that Valve literally throws it into the game without thinking. The number of worthwhile official maps in the game can be counted on one, maybe two hands. They added the horrifyingly terrible pl_frontier, which was originally limited to custom map servers that go for quantity over quality. Valve doesn't even bother adding a LOD to their items (level-of-detail, used to render items with fewer polygons from distances) until enough people complain. In the latest patch, they added weapons that, for every shot taken, was like adding an entire player to the scene.

And let's not even get started on the Source engine. It is broken garbage. Melee attacks can hit you from 15 meters away, even if both players have good ping. Valve still has no idea how to make a backstab only happen from the back (despite pulling it off with the Backburner). TF2 is a game that designed to allow for melee attacks despite the engine that makes it literally impossible for melee to be at all reasonable. You can also get hit from around walls with bullet weapons if the other person has a high ping (the main reason Sniper is Australian and Heavy is Russian).

TF2 only gets attention because the multiplayer FPS has become so ridiculously stagnant that literally any developer who didn't just puke onto a hard drive and call it a game can make something noteworthy. If TF2 is one of the best, most polished FPS games in history, then pretty much the entire genre is unpolished and terrible by the standards of any other gaming genre.

If TF2 were a weapon, it would be the Flare Gun. After the Pyro takes his last shot, he loads in the next flare despite being out of ammo. 3 years later and this bug remains.

Everything you listed is either a problem in every multiplayer FPS, or not really a problem at all and you just whining.

But I remember your opinion on FPS games being questionable at best so I'll just end this here.
