Have you ever played a game and thought some of the random characters you meet were more awesome than the one you were controlling? You're stuck to stock classes like "Mage" and "Warrior," but what if you didn't want that responsibility of saving the world, or you wanted a break from the monotony?
I'd like to be those martial arts/sword masters. They get the responsibility of training the "chosen ones," much like personal trainers to pro athletes. I don't seek my own glory, but would like the respect of peers, friends, and other members of society. It would also be my job to either assist the hero or protect the town during rough patches. It also helps to know if I'm at that level, I could kick all sorts of ass in a position of authority.

Nah, I'd rather be the adventuring hero than anything else I've seen in an RPG. If I were anyone else and I saw a tightly-knit group working toward a common globe-shaping goal come running through my town you can bet your bottom gil I'd ask to tag along.
