I rebooted into Linux for a bit and decided to load up the boards but I don't have GameFOX on Linux
Ads ads ads ads ads. Or hunks of black space, whatever. I mean I figured it'd be bad but god. In the most obnoxious places.
Does anyone not use GameFOX or some similar add on for the boards these days? Or perhaps there's some better adblock that collapses them better? I just can't see the boards being used as they are without the add on which kinda limits the potential for growth for the site's message boards. I mean this probably doesn't really matter since I doubt Bacon really cares about the growth of the message boards... but I'm just sayin. The boards look so sleazy now by default.

Odd...I don't even think about the empty space. I just kinda automatically focus on where the text I want to read is. I guess there might be something out there that could accommodate you, perhaps a greasemonkey script, but damned if I know XD

I see a max of three ads on most pages with no pop ups besides the occasional gamespot survey. You either watch too much porn or you've never been on a single internet page that has had ads before in order to think the ads here are anything except easily ignorable.

I really wish GameFOX would officially update. The unofficial fix is good, but it doesn't have last post link in active messages, as well as telling you if there's a new post or not.

There's a more recent unofficial fix that takes care of that. Check out Blood Money. It's called LameFOX.
Decided to peek at my settings for the first time in a loooong time. Seems I have been using the 'ads in header' option, which works best for me. The ads on the side option made the board scrunched up and had my board list running down the left side. I had no idea ads within the posts/topics was an option and good lord whoever came up with that should be shot.

Yeah. I was thinking it might look bad with smaller resolution. With higher resolution though right column is definitely the way to go.

Ads in the right column is pretty much unacceptable on all accounts, but it's better than "middle of the page/topic list." Whoever thought that was okay to even be an option

If your resolution is correct it actually doesn't change the look of the site much at all, considering there's already a board list there. (which I'm frankly glad GameFOX removes as well, but that's not really the point since you're stuck with it normally)

My resolution is fine! I like the boards to extend as far horizontally as they can, and that doesn't happen if you stick ads in that space. Putting them into the header makes them unobtrusive and easy to ignore, though having some sort of adblock pretty much takes care of everything!
Oh, no, I guess you guys are right. I think I just got confused in my comparison cause ads are on the right side with the board list in everywhere but those two screens in all settings, it seems.
Yeah I guess top is better. Slightly. I kinda hate where the "post new message" and search stuff is there, though. It's kinda jumbled up.
Both are "kinda annoying" I guess.

The only annoying thing I have experienced is having 'post new topic' and 'remove favorite' in such close proximity to each other. 'Post new message' is a bit awkward too if you bother to use it, but gamefaqs did add a quickposting thing that, while obviously inspired by gamefox, makes gamefox much less needed.

Eh. I'd sooner have quickpost off than have ads of any sort. Even blocked they still disrupt the formatting and make things just generally more ugly which annoys me.
I mean I use quickpost since it's there and convenient but I can get along fine without it.
