Welcome to Day 1 of Han's opinions that will probably result in him being stoned at some point.

Today, I would like to discuss Metal Gear Solid 3. How did I arrive at such a conclusion, you might ask? Well, let me tell a little story...

Three years ago, I bought the MGS 3-pack from my local video game store that was dying out (sad face). I started with MGS for the Playstation. I popped it into my PS2, and played it almost non-stop. The game was brilliant. The gameplay was a bit odd at points, but there was only one part in the game where I was given a lot of trouble.

Enter MGS2. First part was fun. Second part was a new experience. Some of the charm of the first game, I felt, was lost. Also, the maps weren't as fun. I mean, yay, another walkway. Oh wait, this is the same walkway, I'm just crossing it for the fifteenth time. But I digress. The game was still fun, the story still engrossing. And the finale... no words need to be said! I actually remember restarting after getting the FISSION MAILED screen because I clicked the button...

Anyway, next, it was time to start MGS3. The past two games were great, and I played right through them.

So I play. I get past The Pain. Then I just get bored and quit.

MGS4 came out, and I wanted to play, but I figured I should beat MGS3 first.

I pick it up again. I think I got to the part where you can shoot The End or something. Which was like three maps past where I left off. Then I quit.

I try once more, get frustrated, then pick up MGS4. Beat it in a few days.

Should I try MGS3 again? Yeah, I believe so. Even though I'm a bit low on time to do so. But the fact remains that I could not get into it. The game just didn't stick to me.

And that is why Metal Gear Solid 3 is the worst in its series.

You should definitely retry it.

That said, while I love all the MGS games, I'd like to say that 3 is the most overrated. It's a great game, but the people who claim it's so much better than the others I just can't agree with. They're all about equal in my opinion.

MGS3 is the best one. The bosses are amazing in design, the gameplay is fantastic, the story is the strongest, the characters are just so wonderful, specifically a select few though. Big Boss is better than Solid Snake. The Boss is one of the best antagonists ever. Young Ocelot is better than old Ocelot, though he's awesome no matter what, I just really enjoyed his rivalry with Big Boss. And The Sorrow. EVA was cool too.

Now wait here while I gather a pile of stones brb.

Well, let's see.

In MGS3 we have (among others I'm probably forgetting):
The Pain, Fear, End, and Fury explosions (4)
The Davy Crockett (5)
Snake's aircraft thing getting Patriot'd (6)
Blowing up the Shagohod hangar (7)
Volgin/Shagohod when hit by lightning (8)
EVA's bike blowing up (9)

While, TBQH, I don't remember many cutscene explosions in 4. There's probably some involving Gekkos, though.

MGS3 is pretty good, but it does have the incredibly obnoxious problem of having to change your clothes every time you move, which means pausing the game every twelve seconds, and having to go into the screen to heal yourself whenever you're hit during boss fights. Neither of those is a gamebreaker or anything, but it's still pretty aggravating.

You missed the entire point of the system. You were to take the camo that would help you out the most through your stealth trip, which still required you to be stealthy. If you lost 5% or 10% it wouldn't matter at all.

MGS3 is one of my all time favorite games, was my #1 until MGS4 came out, now it's my close runner-up. Amazing, mindblowingly awesome game in every way for me.

That said, games, it's just entertainment, if you're not into that game well you're not into it. No biggie.

Now, I always gotta comment on the Big Boss is better than Solid Snake opinions. For one thing, MGS3 stars Naked Snake, a character very similar to Solid Snake. He pretty much just is Solid Snake, until the events of the game lead him to being Big Boss.

To distinguish and say a character with the same catch phrases, voice acting, and a very similar personality is better than the original we've played before is a bit odd to me. But hey.

It's almost like a "what if" Solid Snake was in a different situation and different time that led him to becoming someone else. We enjoy that character because we're already fans of Solid Snake.

I think its mainly because the narrative for MGS3 takes a back seat until later in the game where it becomes pretty damn good. However along the way from Granin to the Fury there is barely any story and therefore its less compelling than say MGS1/2.

MGS3 is worth finishing just to see the ending.

MGS3 is my favorite game of the series by far. That said, it has got the most idiotic plot of all time. And I love it for it. The plot is cheesy as hell, but it's such wonderful cheese I can't help but love it.

I'm not saying the plot is great, because it really isn't. It's quite bad to be honest. But it's just...enjoyable to me. The gameplay is bad if you go to the menu to change camo every five minutes, but it's great if you learn to ignore that and just play with 80% or so camo all time.

So yeah, does it have a ton of flaws? Definitely. It's still my favorite game of the series, but I'm not really someone who will defend its plot as a masterpiece.

Just a random thought, wouldn't it be funny if in a new Zelda game they reveal that Link is a clone of a guy, and then we play a prequel with that guy who looks like Link with an eyepatch. Then bam, he's the fan fav.

Patch guy >>>>>> Link

Ha, of course I'm a fan of Big Boss, and especially of Naked Snake and MGS3, but that's my opinion on Big Boss >>>>> Solid Snake

Nobody was saying Big Boss is better than Solid Snake, until we played as Naked Snake that is.

I don't see how this is a fair comparison, since Big Boss has existed just as long as Snake has.

It's more like if Link turned out to be a clone of Ganon, and we saw a prequel where Ganon looked kind of like Link.

Where's MGS4 Snake (Old Snake), and MGS2 Snake? Ranking all the Solid Snakes, that's a new one. =P

I have no idea how I'd rank them, I like the character in general. He's especially easy to root for in MGS4, so I guess I'll go with Old Snake. He was probably at his "coolest" in MGS2. Then again, he was pretty damn cool in Twin Snakes / MGS1.

As for Big Boss, I like him the most when he's Naked Snake gives a great cardboard box speech like my man Solid Snake. Then PeaceWalker, then uh that PS3 game he's in is that a spoiler I don't know folks. I wasn't big on Portable Ops but he's cool in that of course. MG1 and 2 he's just a villain I wasn't really a strong fan of.

Also Raiden is a cool cat, he reminds me of Camille the main dude from Zeta Gundam, he's just trying to get by in some crazy times.

I once did a backflip during a fencing match. Miraculously the cable attached to me didn't make me fall. I just fell because doing a backflip while holding a sword and heavy gear is an idiotic idea.

...Had a concussion as a result but goddamn it if it wasn't the coolest way to win a match ever. Nothing I ever do will top it. It shall forever be my greatest fencing moment.

I literally fell while I won. I had to score one more point to win, did the backflip because it seemed like a good idea at the time(it was a really, really awkward angle to dodge the guy) and I instead of focusing on, you know, landing, I just reached out my arm to hit him. The guy was kind of in a "...what the f*** are you doing" reaction so he let his guard down and I hit the final point.

Then I fell and hit my head pretty bad.
