I had to continue 60 times on Hard mode to get through it (Since its one of those games where you have to beat it on hard to see everything) and God damn it, it's just not worth it.
The game puts you through torture as you here the same clips repeated over and over again, and when the opponents Pokemon starts making elongated calls of their name, it's basically over, because you're about to have a block 10 rows big slammed on top of you, most of the time killing you within five seconds of said drop. But it's still not that bad at first; it's tough, but doable.
Then you hit Lorelei and the s*** hits the fan. I will NEVER view Cloyster in the same way again. The sound of "Cl-l-l-l-oyster" will forever haunt my memory. And yet, the round I finally beat her, it took 17 seconds. Go figure.
Bruno was cake, but then came the champ himself; Gary (shocker, I know). He proceeded to whoop me for 25 rounds in a row, all the while the same lame midi-tune of Pokemon World from the fight with him at the beginning of the game going. You'd think some sort of cool final boss music would replace this, but it doesn't. And then, when I finally did beat him, he tells me "Congratulations! You won!" while a little Big Rigs-esque trophy spins in the corner, then a two second anime clip of Ash holding the trophy shows, and then roll credits to a midi of the Pokerap. Blegh.
It's a good puzzle game. It really, truly is. But it's not worth the pain it causes. The horrible, horrible pain.

It may have been frustrating on Super Hard, but boy was it enjoyable! Well kind of... I'll admit that that mostly just came down to luck. But you have to practice up and do your best at countering their garbage by lining up insane links under the garbage each time it drops down!
Maybe it's because I grew up on it, but Very Hard usually doesn't take more than 30 or so continues, and more recently I've generally shot for no continues on Hard. Super Hard is rather annoying, but that's to be expected I suppose. Oh, but that C-l-l-l-oyster and all the other drawn-out Pokemon sounds. They are the stuff of nightmares!

With all of those games you have to be super offensive.
The computers know how to dish it out because they are dirty cheaters, but if you dish it first you have a good chance to ruin them before they can get anything going.
Super offensive's the way to go. Sometimes you get lucky, and they'll do the same, and leave one big column of blocks and kill themselves, but it doesn't happen very often. Only way to truly know you've killed them is to give them so much garbage, that once they finish one of their huge chains, they don't have enough blocks to make a single match. Always feels good when you win that way.

This is a very satisfying way to win! Leave them no options! And you know it's effective, since it seems like that's the way that they always beat you!

Yeah, Pokemon Puzzle League is ridiculously difficult. I'm already pretty bad at puzzle games. I think I'm fighting Bruno in Very Hard right now, so I'm not even gonna touch Super Hard.
At least the music is pretty good. I wish Champ Gary got a better tune, but whatever. Also, the quotes. Oh man. Those quotes.

Rank 9, Dr. Peace? Pffft, nothing compared to Rank 1, Dr_Football! when thinking of Krystal, does GMUN's pants get overcrowded? ~ GMUN
Giovanni's Persian. Just one chain and it goes "WRAIWR!" and it's insanely loud! It gets even more obnoxious when the chains get crazy. If I owned that stupid cat I would leave it in a field to die and have no regrets.

Give up some love for the Guru! Ladies and gentleman, the Incredible Black Turtle!
I played a ton of Tetris Attack back in the SNES days so this game was pretty easy for me. VHard and SHard were pretty tough though. You have to learn how to chain actively and not just hope for stuff to fall into place.

Well, yeah, obviously. And most of the time I could.
I'd like to make it clear that if you eliminate Lorelei and the 2nd Gary from the equation, I would have only continued 10 times or so. But whenever I fought those two, literally nothing came up for me half the time. I would have to wait quite awhile for any possible block connections to show up, all the while I'm being destroyed from above. Most of the matches I lost were lost in less than a minute.
