I had an English teacher that drove the rules for apostrophes into our heads.

I remember she was always bugged by restroom signs that said, "Mens."

To be fair, english is one of the most convoluted and illogical languages on the planet. It's no wonder the US is intellectually handicapped when your primary language is so cluttered and backwards.

Human intellect is tied to language, if you think of your brain as a computer language is its operating system. English could be considered Windows ME for this metaphor.

It's true. I'm no linguist, but even the little I know of sentence structure in other languages, I can say that English is the most difficult. It doesn't have enough hard-and-fast rules.

I wasn't talking about sentence structure, though, and I think the rules governing plurality are pretty clear-cut.

Maybe it started when people didn't know how to pluralize decades. Instead of writing the '90s, they wrote the 90's. That's not how it works!
