I've been wanting to own one ever since I first tried it in the mid-90s, and I think I'm finally gonna take the plunge and pick one up soon. Any of y'all own it? And if so, what games should be my top priorities?

I have one, but the only thing I ever really played on it was Guardian Heroes. Best Beat Em Up ever IMO. Choose your own adventure story and RPG level up elements.
I have one, but I need to take out and replace the save battery and I have no games for it really (just 3: Virtua Fighter, Battle Arena Toshinden, and Panzer Dragoon) >_>

The only certain death in the universe is Mother Hitton's Littul Kittons. Not changing this line until I beat Seven Heroes (2/24/07)

Why not? >_>

This sounds freakin' awesome. I'll keep it in mind, man!

I have one. There aren't that many great games that I've played, and most of them are overpriced. Games I'd recommend are Panzer Dragoon Saga (hilariously overpriced), Dragon Force (overpriced), Guardian Heroes (getting remade on the 360), Shining Force 3 (has three parts, only one was localized. There's a translation patch, so you'd be better off emulating it), and Nights into Dreams.
The only real "problem" with Guardian Heroes is that it's pretty expensive. I got lucky and purchased my Saturn with a box of games and it happened to be amongst them, but as you can see...
I'm very lucky. If money's not an issue, it's a fantastic game though. Certainly keep a look out for it if you ever go to pawn shops or other places that sell old games.
it's an okay console, but there's not much quality that hasn't been ported to another console already. it's got a good controller for fighting games. unfortunately as far as fighting games on the console goes we're talking SFA3 and that's not very good, so...!

Oh lawdy! That's a buzzkill. >_> I'll keep an eye out for a cheap copy, though!
metaIslugg posted... Saturn is by far and away the best console for spaceship shooters. So aim for that, heh pun not intended.
I'm a pretty big fan of shmups, so that's good news!

Radiant Silvergun is the king of Saturn Shmups, as I hear it. Japanese only, though, and it's been announced for XBox Live. Really, though, if you're getting a Saturn make absolutely sure you can find a way to play Japanese games. There are simply a huge number of games never brought over to the US for the Saturn.

My favorite gaming store in town actually has a wide array of import titles, and I know they have quite a few Japanese Saturn games. Shouldn't be a problem!
metaIslugg posted... Genesis is good too, I shouldn't have said "by far and away the best"
DonPachi DoDonPachi (the best Taito stuff) Darius Gaiden Galactic Attack Radiant Silvergun Gunbird Thunder Force
Get ready to shell out some cash though. Saturn is a collector's console.
Very true, and thanks for the suggestions! Darius Gaiden and Galactic Attack appear to be fairly inexpensive, so I'll look into those if nothing else; really though, I can see myself purchasing a few of the more collectible titles down the road as well. Lord knows I've done it with the Game Gear!

I am so jelly.
The place stocks some legitimately insane stuff. I bought a brand-new Atari Lynx there a few years back, as well as a CIB Virtual Boy - they even had a CIB copy of EarthBound for only $45 several years back, but that was "the one that got away." :( Heck, they even stocked copies of Electroplankton back when that game first came out!
I haven't been in the store itself for a while, but looking at their website, it appears that their Saturn selection is as good as ever. I'm excited!

Get NiGHTS into Dreams. Greatest game for that system.
Will do! I'm admittedly not sold on the NiGHTS character himself, but the gameplay sounds undeniably incredible; and the visuals look terrific.
metaIslugg posted... GAH, that dreadful "one that got away".... We've all experienced it. ;_;
Ain't that the truth, man. :(
metaIslugg posted... I know japanese-oriented stores (manga, toys, etc) sometimes carry some games too. Too bad that stuff is so hard to find, at least where I live.
Where I live, it should be hard to find stuff like that - I live just outside the Bible Belt, pretty much! The fact that I've been able to find the stuff I mentioned in previous posts still blows my mind.

Radiant Silvergun Shining Force III, all 3 scenarios Dragon Force Thunder Force V Soukyugurentai X-Men vs. Streetfighter Lunar Silver Star Story Lunar 2 Eternal Blue Panzer Dragoon King of Fighters 96 Wipeout and a bunch of sports titles too.
I also got a chance to play through the Shining Force III Premium Disc.

You guys left Truxton off of your genesis space shooter list.
Sega really hurt themselves after the genesis by keeping a bunch of the better games exclusive to japan. I loved my genesis. I had started gaming with the nes and then the SNES but once I got a genesis I had turned into a full on sega fanboy.
My dissapointment with the SEGA CD was epic. I still have it and all 5 games I have for it.
I had a Saturn briefly. Sold it to a friend for 200$ when I found out the 3rd Eternal Champions game was cancelled.
It's a great system, and really hard to emulate on PC's from what I've read. So many people do still buy them. People listed a lot of the great games. Many are still exclusive to the system.
