In the portion of my circle of friends that plays video games, I've noticed two kinds of fighting game people. The people who play the entire cast, use random a lot whenever it's available, etc. And then there's the people who main a character or two, usually high tier people. A lot of Marth and Sheik in SSBM, lots of Yun and Ken in Third Strike.
So which one are you? Describe your fighting game tendencies, please.
I main El Fuerte when I go online but when I play casuals I always main Random.

Well I usually just stick to one character in a game like SSF4 but I still play random a lot if I'm bored. I only have one team in MVC3 though because there's a lot more that goes into team dynamic. Going random in Marvel isn't fun because it amounts to me doing magic series over and over.
LeonhartFour posted... Usually just play around with whoever
This, except I stick with specific favorites, so it's really in the middle of the two types in the OP. To be fair, Melee is the only fighting game I've played recently though.
In Melee I most commonly used Link, Mario, Samus, Captain Falcon, and Ganondorf, if I remember correctly.
Only a few of my friends are into video games. As far as fighting games go, myself and my friend, who are the most into video games, and thus the best, tend to use the whole cast (though I'm better with certain characters, and will occasionally gravitate towards them), while most of the other people we know will have one specific character they play, and in one or two cases, abuse the hell out of certain moves.

I fool around with everyone, but I try specializing at two or three characters. The longer I play the game, the more characters I try to specialize in >_>
If I am super serious for some reason, I'll play about 2. The vast majority of the time I just derp around and either go random or wander between most or all of the roster.

Usually 2-5 I'll actually play a good amount to the point where I learn to play them well. Though I'll play "most of the cast" from time to time. There are always a few characters I just hate and don't touch at all, but yeah.
How many are high tier is completely random-- I just play the characters I like as characters. Beit cause they're really cool in their story modes or because they're fun to play or whatever.

Both, lately. In Melee I'd always choose random but get happy with Doc or Zelda. In VF4 I'd always choose Aoi. I've been playing SSFIV lately and have been sticking to Dudley so I can get good with him, but I like playing as a random character as well, as it lets you learn about different movesets and such.

Generally 2. Obviously you gotta "play" em all to better understand what you're up against & what is the bane of other players' existences, but I assume you're not counting that.
